And it was during the signing up period that this interesting anecdote emanated and has been floating around. According to the grapevine, it is being whispered that, SG suddenly decided to cut the movie’s budget and thought of every which way to trim the financials. Of course, the difficult part was approaching Salman – who would bell the cat? ‘Not I’ said everyone else; so Ghai allegedly decided to approach the much-respected Salim Khan and seek his counsel. He’s supposed to have approached Salman's father to ask him to request Salman to ‘reconsider’ a ‘pay cut’. Mr Khan, in his inimitable style, is supposed to have told SG that he would revert the next day. And when D-day arrived, and Ghai called, Salimsaab is reported to have said, ‘I thought about it. And I’ve reached the conclusion that Salman has charged too little going by his market standards.
