Sony to air GIFA on 17 December

MUMBAI: The Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) 2006, which were recently held in Kuala Lumpur will be telecast on Sony Entertainment Television on 17 December at 8 pm.

GIFA, the brainchild of Popcorn Entertainment and Sunil Shetty and Global Events was attended by the likes of Asha Parekh, Shatrugan Sinha, Smita Thackeray, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham, Salman Khan, Bipasha Basu, Aftab Shivdasani, Minisha Lamba, Upen Patel and Esha Deol amongst others.

The awards are held in conjunction with the Cine Stars Association, and was attended by the royal family of Malaysia, the King and the Queen, who also presented some of the main awards.

Performances at the awards were by Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Ameesha Patel, Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan. The show was hosted by an array of stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal, Riya Sen, Minisha Lamba, Rohit Roy and Arbaaz Khan.

Sony will also present a special curtain raiser of this three-day extravaganza. One of the highlights of GIFA was the world premiere of Ravi Chopra Baabul starring Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee and John Abraham.

The curtain raiser will be aired on 15 and 16 December at 11 pm, which will be followed by the awards ceremony on 17 December at 8 pm.
