So, who’s the most powerful person in Bollywood? If your guess is Amitabh Bachchan or Shah Rukh Khan, think again. It’s Yash Chopra and his son Aditya of Yash Raj Films. The results of the Filmfare Power List 2006 will be out today when the February issue hits the stands. A sneak preview reflects how performers and films fared in the recent past.
Yash Raj Films continues to dominate at the overall No. 1 slot for the second year running. After all, not only did it bankroll two of 2006’s biggest hits—Dhoom 2 and Fanaa—it also hit paydirt by distributing Krrish and Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna.
Krrish and Dhoom 2 have also sent Hrithik Roshan’s stock soaring and he’s zoomed into the Top Ten for the first time.
Shah Rukh Khan is still the king of superstars and directors, just as Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar are still perceived as the industry’s power points. For Amitabh Bachchan, it’s status quo at No 3, proving beyond doubt that at 64, he can still give the members of the younger brigade a run for their money.
But there are surprises galore as well. Where woman power is concerned, the only one to make it to the Top Ten is Rani Mukerji. Put it down to her consistently good and versatile performances.
Conducted by AC Nielson-ORG Marg, the power list polled 200 people from the film industry, from actors to technicians. The list showcases the ten most powerful people in the Hindi film industry and also the Top Ten personalities (actors, actresses, producers, directors, musicians, technical personnel and, of course, the moneybags, the distributors, exhibitors and financiers).
