London Calling’
for Salman-Ajay
Subhash K Jha
Ajay Devgan has almost become Raj Kumar Santoshi’s
resident hero. After the versatile filmmaker completes
the political drama Saamna with Ajay in the lead, sometime
next year he goes into production of the grand musical
London Dreams with the same actor, except this time,
Salman Khan joins the cast.
Straying from the gut-wrenching action of his trademark
movies, London Dreams moves to London to delineate the
life, times and music of Asian underground music. AR
Rahman has already been roped in to do the global sounds
of this unorthodox Bollywood musical.
But the real surprise of the project is the return of
Salman to Santoshi’s cinema. Some years ago the
two had teamed up for the uproarious comedy Andaz Apna
Apna. One reason could be Salman’s decision to
go on a signing spree (he has lately said yes to Nikhil
Advani, Samir Karnik among others).
London Dreams could be Santoshi’s most expensive
film to date and could try to replicate the flamboyance
of Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge. Says the director,
“Right now I’m am busy completing ‘Family’.
It’s about how the underworld can affect the life
of a common man. I’ve worked earlier with Amitji
in Khakee. I’d like to believe Family will show
an entirely new facet to his talent when the film opens
in December.”
After pausing Raj continues, “After Family I’d
immediately like to go into my next film Samna which
has Ajay Devgan, Aishwarya Rai, Akshay Kumar and Nana
Patekar. London Dreams will come only after Samna. So
I wouldn’t like to say much about it right now.
But yes, Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan have been signed
for it. And Rahman will do the music.”

Raj Kumar Santoshi - Salman Khan came together for the
first time in the hugely successful comedy film, Andaz
Apna Apna in 1994. After that Santoshi was rumoured
to have tried getting the three Khans together in his
film. That obviously didn’t materialise.

The "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" duo of Salman
Khan and Ajay Devgan will once again come together for
director Rajkumar Santoshi's next film titled "London
Dreams".
The two actors never came together in a film due to reported
differences between them over the climax of "Hum
Dil..." which showed Ajay uniting with the movie's
leading lady Aishwarya Rai, reports Bollywood Trade.
According to reports, it was Salman who took the initiative
of ending the cold war by inviting Ajay for lunch when
he was shooting for "Benaam" at Filmistan studio
here. Salman too was shooting at the same studio for his
forthcoming release "Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya".
It will be interesting to know what roles Santoshi has
in mind for the two super performers. The film's lead
heroine is yet to be finalised.
Never mind the mixed response to its recent release
"Paheli", the production and distribution
house Ashtavinayak Cine Vision has a promising year
ahead, says its vice president Rupen Amlani.
To start with, the company is gearing up for its forthcoming
release "Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya", which it is
co-producing with Sohail Khan Productions. The film
is being released with a record number ofapproximately
600 prints all over India, reports Bollywood Trade.
"It is a major release for us. This is the second
time we are releasing a David Dhawan film after 'Mujhse
Shaadi Karogi'. The song 'Just chill' is already a rage
among youngsters," Amlani said.
Then there's the much-anticipated multi-starrer "Dus"
lined up for release in which Ashtavinayak has distribution
stakes.
Meanwhile, the company has signed Salman Khan for a film
to be directed by Priyadarshan. This will be Priyadarshan's
second film with the banner, apart from the one he is
doing with Akshay Kumar.Filmmaker J.P. Dutta has signed
music director Anu Malik to score the music for his much-talked-about
projects "Maharani Gayatri Devi" and "Umrao
Jaan", reports Bollywood Trade.
"I've shared a great rapport with Dutta since
the days of 'Border'. Just as I respect him for his
kind of films, he has faith in my music. Both the films
I am giving music to are stylised period films,"
Malik says.
Among the other films Anu is lending his music-making
talents to are Farah Khan's "Happy New Year"
and Sajid Nadiadwalla's Salman-starrer "Jaan-e-Man".
With the latter, he has managed to break the Himesh
Reshammiya hold on Salman starrers. Himesh is known
to be a hot favorite with Salman.
Salman-Ajay in Santoshi's next!
The HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM duo of Salman Khan and Ajay
Devgan will once again come together in Raj Kumar Santoshi's
next film, titled LONDON DREAMS. The two never came together
in a film despite offers, due to reported differences
surfacing between them over the climax of HDDCS, which
showed Ajay uniting with Aishwarya Rai.
According to reports in a section of the press, it was
Salman who took the initiative of ending the cold war,
by inviting Ajay for lunch when he was shooting for BENAAM
in Filmistan studio. Salman was shooting at the same studio
for his forthcoming release,
MAINE PYAAR
KYUN KIYA. Now that Aishwarya Rai is no more the issue
of contention, it will be interesting to find out what
roles Santoshi has in mind for the two super performers
in the film. The lead heroine for the film is yet to be
finalized.

Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan have come together to
do Raj Kumar Santoshi's next, tentatively titled London
Dreams. The film's female lead is yet to be finalised.
This will be Salman and Ajay's second film together
after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Confirms Santoshi, "It's
true that Salman and Ajay are doing my film. We have
changed the title London Dreams, but I won't divulge
any more details right now." Sources close to Devgan
also confirm that he is doing the film, and that he
has no problem working with Salman again.
"Yes, Ajay and I are doing Rajji's next film," says Salman.
But wasn't there a problem with him and Ajay? "No, of
course not," he retorts. "Ajay and I have always been
fine with each other; we always got along very well."
Shooting for the film, a musical love triangle, will start
in August. Salman's next release is Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya
(July 15), also starring Sushmita Sen, brother Sohail
Khan and Katrina Kaif.
The film is produced by Salman and Sohail and directed
by David Dhawan. mid-day.com Salman-Ajay jhagda Salman
Khan wanted the heroine of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (Aishwarya
Rai) to be reunited with him in the film's climax, and
not with Ajay Devgan, who played her husband. Ash and
Salman were dating then.
Though Salman, Ajay and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali
never spoke out about what actually happened, this was
cited as the reason for Bhansali and Salman not working
together until a couple of years ago. But the two appear
to have sorted out their differences - last year (when
Ajay was shooting for Benaam and Salman for Maine Pyar
Kyun Kiya) in Filmistan, Salman invited Ajay for lunch
and waited for him while he finished his shot.

Akki walks out of Santoshi film
-By

Akshay Kumar has opted out of Rajkumar Santoshi's new
film starring Salman Khan. According to insiders, the
film is a remake of Hollywood film Amadeus which Santoshi
had planned to make about five years back with Shah Rukh
Khan and Aamir Khan. The film didn't take off then as
Aamir wanted to play SRK's character and therefore Santoshi
had to shelve the film.
Santoshi has now found a producer
for the film for which he approached Salman Khan and
Akskhay Kumar, but with Akshay Kumar walking out of
the project (apparently he found the role not good enough
for him after Waqt), Santoshi has now roped in Ajay
Devgan. Tentatively titled London Bridge, the director
is currently in London scouting locations for the film.
However, the industry grapevine
is aghast by Santoshi's announcements of films. The
director has announced nothing less than five films
in the last two years, with only one film Family nearing
completion. His project with AB Corp, Ranveer, still
hasn't taken off for lack of script, though the director
is confident of starting the film early next year.
Meanwhile, he has announced
another film with producer Sami Siddique titled Saamna
with a huge star cast of Aishwarya Rai, Ajay Devgan,
Nana Patekar and Akshay Kumar. It is likely to be a
political thriller. Santoshi has only shot for a few
days for the film. Keshu Ramsay, the producer of Family,
has also signed him for another film which, the producer
informs, will go on floor by the end of year.
No Ash for Salman again!
By Our Correspondent ©2005 Bollivista
Hrithik is the reason why Sallu doesn't get Ash again!
Salman Khan was almost ready to do Ashutosh Gowariker's
'Akbar-Jodha' when Hrithik Roshan stepped in. With Hrithik
stepping in, it was safe enough for Ashu to cast Aishwarya
Rai as his female lead.
Incidentally, for Raj Kumar Santoshi's forthcoming 'London
Dreams', which Salman Khan is doing, it is rumoured
that Ash (who did 'Khakee' for him and is doing 'Saamna')
had approached Santoshi. But guess what? Salman refused
