“Kapil and Saloni
didn’t fail me. I failed them. There was a
problem in their careers because of me” –
Saawan Kumar
By IndiaFM News Bureau, April 5, 2006 - 00:31 IST
|
Not
deterred with the failure of Pardesi Ho Gaya, this
veteran director and producer is back with his latest
offering that he names on himself Saawan - The Love
Season starring none other than Salman Khan. Here's
a one on one chat with Saawan Kumar Tak.
There are no conflicts related to money and villains.
None of the problems which the audience has seen
till date will be seen in this film. Yet, it has
a zabardast conflict.
Tell us about Salman Khan's role in the film.
He comes in the film, eleven minutes before the
interval. Then he is there till the climax. The
entire setting of the story changes, once Salman
Khan enters. The audience has never seen Salman
Khan the way they will see him in Saawan. His getup
is very special. The promo has already been released.
The feedback that we got for Salman's look is phenomenal!
Such positive feedback encourages us. The film is
on Salman's shoulder. The entire climax depends
on Salman Khan. It's a very different film. You
won't see any love triangle. Salman's character
is new. No one has seen any character like that.
What does the title Saawan signify?
Well my name is Saawan and it has nothing to do
with the film title. The film name Saawan is related
to the love. It signifies the loves season. It's
a completely romantic film. Kapil Jhaveri and Saloni Aswani were in your earlier
film, Dil Pardesi Ho Gayaa, which unfortunately
didn't work. Why did you decide to repeat them in
lead roles, this time as well?
I had given these two kids a chance through my film,
Dil Pardesi Ho Gayaa. It's not they who failed me.
I failed them. There was a problem in their careers
because of me. I was feeling extremely guilty. I
was confident about their talent. That's why I wanted
to repeat them. Even they were in the process of
improving themselves. Both of them have been working
out and have been giving importance to their appearance.
I was convinced that they are ready made actors.
By the grace of God, this movie will work. I hope
that it works for their sake.

Having Salman Khan
as co-star is big privilege
By Manissha Despaande, Bollywood Trade News Network
Glamsham.com
Saawan Kumar Tak isn't the only one who is raving
about Salman Khan. Actresss, Salloni Aswani, who
plays the female lead in SAAWAN - The Love Season,
admits to being absolutely bowled over with Salman's
gracious presence and his tendency to help his co-stars.
"He is the kind of person who goes out of his
way to co-operate with his co-stars. What I liked
most about him is the way he'd come to my rescue.
At times Saawan-ji would not be able to hear me
in the din and reprimand me for not reciting a dialogue
properly but Salman would tell him that he'd heard
me say it properly. He's a fabulous co-star to work
with and having him for a co-star is a big privilege,"
she says.
In the film, she plays the role of a student who
comes for a vacation with her friends and falls
in love with a young boy (Kapel Jhaveri) after much
persuasion. "The story takes a turn when Salman
arrives and gives a very big twist to the whole
story. The fun-loving girl suddenly finds herself
coping with a very different set of circumstances,"
she reveals.
She also has a lot to say about Salman's involvement
as an actor. "A majority of actors switch on
and off but he continues to live the character for
a long time after the shot is over. I remember when
the cameraman would say "cut", he would
still remain in the character for a long time,"
she recalls.
Incidentally, Salloni admits to being an ardent
Salman fan for a long time. "I have not missed
a single Salman film till date so when Saawan-ji
told me that I was being paired opposite him, I
jumped at the idea. It was like a big achievement
for me at this stage in my career," she says. |
SAAWAN gets thumbs
up from the censor board!
By Manissha Despaande, Bollywood Trade News Network
Saawan Kumar's SAAWAN - THE LOVE SEASON, which
has Salman Khan in the lead, has been awarded a
'U' certificate without any cuts. According to Saawan Kumar, the Examining Committee
members who viewed the film on March 30, liked the
film immensely and immediately gave it a go-ahead.
"They commented that they had not seen a cleanly
made film with a similar intensity, minus any show
of vulgarity for a long time. They also liked Salman's
performance in it," Saawan Kumar revealed,
adding that apart from the exception of a handful
few films, all his films have been awarded a 'U'
certificate so far.
The film is being released on April 6 with 400
prints all over the world, with over 100 prints
in Mumbai alone. Saawan Kumar has specially chosen
to release it a day earlier to cash in on the Ram
Navmi holiday, which falls on April 6. According
to him, the exhibitors are eagerly looking forward
to the film's release considering that all Salman
starrers have a great opening. |
An interview with Director
Saawan Kumar
Friday, March 31, 2006
Director Saawan Kumar Tak''s Saawan - The Love Season
is due for release, and just as every film-maker
goes through an intense emotional experience during
the making of each of his films, Saawan Kumar Tak
too experienced the same.
The film is his 19th in a career of 30 years, and
he says, "I have written, produced and directed
Saawan - The Love Season like all my other films
but the making this film has left an indelible impression
on my mind." He says he owes the feeling entirely
to Salman Khan, "who has given a heart rendering
performance in the film, one of his best in recent
times. His dedication and involvement in the film
is something that I will never forget as much as
his eagerness to help a producer in need."
Here, Saawan Kumar takes us through the making
of Saawan - The Love Season, and more:
"When DIL PARDESI HO GAYA did not meet the
box-office expectations, I promised the two leading
actors, Kapil Jhaveri and Salloni Asvani, that it
would be my responsibility to ensure that they settled
down in their careers. I felt I owed it to them
considering that I had launched their careers. The
big question was however the choice of an actor
for the central character in the film. When I wrote
the character played by Salman, I knew that only
a big star of the stature of Salman or Shah Rukh
could do justice to it. Since I knew Salman, I decided
to approach him knowing that he would not be able
to accommodate too many dates for me in his tight
schedule.
"I was quite delighted when he initially acceded
to spare a few days for the film but the course
of the film changed soon after he gave the very
first shot amidst a huge crowd that had gathered
on the day. He delivered the dialogues in his impeccable
style and paused for a while after he heard the
thundering applause of the crowd that had gathered.
Then he called me in his van and told me that the
character he was playing was too good to be justified
in a span of 20 days. I saw that he'd taken a great
liking for the character.
"The next day I sat down and restructured
the story line to accommodate songs, scenes and
some additional dramatic portions in the film. Moreover
when this project started things started falling
in place. I then roped in Johny Lever and before
I knew it, the film was progressing at break-neck
speed. It was as if destiny had designed it for
me.
"Ironically, the story of the film unwinds
against a background of two conflicting beliefs-destiny
and coincidence. The hero believes in destiny while
the girl he loves, believes that everything in life
is about sheer coincidence. The two meet in Cape
Town where an intense love story blossoms between
the two but tragedy strikes when the boy loses the
girl. The lovelorn hero, who is desperate to get
back to his love, keeps yearning for her until the
power above comes to his rescue and endows him with
unique intuitive ability of foresight. That's when
he meets his lover once again under mysterious circumstances
and rescues her from an accident that he foresees.
"The honesty and conviction with which Salman
has rendered his performance in the film, is visible
in each of its frames. He is the kind of actor who
lives and breathes his character through the completion
of the film. His intense, brooding look in the film
and the stark honesty in his eyes, amply justify
his deep involvement in the film. His dedication
was also evident in the fact that he specially decided
to grow stubble in order to give his character the
look of a tormented lover. Moreover his longhaired
look in the film, has given an added intensity to
his character.
"The film also has a 7-minute qawalli number
picturized on Salman, which has been composed by
Aadesh Srivastava. To keep the entertainment element
alive, I have also added a parallel comedy track
on Johny Lever and Bobby Darling."
"The picturesque locales of Cape Town where
the story takes off, have given the film an ideal
backdrop. I hope destiny makes its presence felt
once again and makes the film a roaring success
at the box-office." |
Salman's
exact role in 'Saawan ... The Love Season'
By Abid, March 28, 2006 - 03:50 IST
Salman Khan and director Saawan Kumar uniting once
again after the superhit 'Sanam Bewafa' and the
super flop 'Chand Ka Tukda', is old news now . What
everyone is curious to know is, Salman's exact role
in the upcoming 'Saawan... The Love Season'. So
here are the the exclusive details.
Salman comes into the narrative just before the
half way mark; exactly eleven minutes before the
interval and is there till the very end, including
the thrilling climax.
The take-off point for the drama is when Salman
(who has no name in the movie), makes a prediction
to the heroine (Salloni Aswani), which shatters
her completely because she is getting ready to marry
her lover at that juncture.
To sum it up, Salman plays a young man who is restored
to life after death and is blessed with prescience.
He has a divine premonition about calamities that
are in store for people. In fact his character has
more mysticism than mystery

Heroine
opposite Salman Khan in 'Saawan' is...
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 16, 2006]
By now everyone is aware about the fact that Salman
Khan is playing much more than just an extended
guest appearance in Saawan Kumar's comeback film
'Saawan - The Love Season'. Some are also aware
that the movie also stars 'Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya'
jodi of Kapil Jhaveri and Saloni Awasthi. But how
many are aware about the girl who is the heroine
opposite Salman Khan in the film?
Well, one may not be able to arrive at a name in
the wildest of imagine as she is none other than
Kiran Rathod! One may ask Kiran Rathod who? Well
she is the same girl who played a bit role as Hrithik
Roshan's fiancee in 'Yaadein' and went on to do
a small part in 'Jaani Dushman' as well. She would
soon also be seen in 'Souten - The Other Woman'
where she plays a meaty role while pitted against
Mahima Chaudhary.
Will 'Saawan' result in a Bollywood calling card
for the young and beautiful Kiran?

Saawan - Music Review
By Joginder Tuteja, March 16, 2006 - 14:26 IST
There was a time when producer-director Saaawan
Kumar was known for his dramatic films in the 70s
and the 80s. He also gave Salman Khan a superhit
film in the form of 'Sanam Bewafa' [1991] but post
that he is still waiting for an elusive hit. There
are tow reasons why his latest flick 'Saaawan –
The Love Season' is special for him. Firstly because
he reunites with Salman Khan after a decade and
a half and secondly the movie's title and his name
are common! The film also stars the same lead pair
of his last film 'Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya', Kapil Jhaveri
and Saloni Awasthi, with music by Aadesh Srivastava
and lyrics by Saaawan Kumar himself. If one looks
at the track record of films by Saaawan Kumar, most
of them have boasted of decent music. One hopes
that 'Saaawan - The Love Season' is no exception.
Remember songs from early and mid 90s that had Govinda,
Akshay Kumar and the rest gyrating to fast pace
songs in a campus setting? 'Punjabi Aankhonwali'
is one such track that is in appreciation of a Punjabi
girl's eyes. And if one hears closely, there is
also a line that goes like "Ladki Ye Kudiyon Mein
Hai SALMAN". Hero worship anyone? A time pass number,
if nothing more, by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan, one
is surprised to see its placement at the very beginning
of the album as it definitely doesn't belong to
the kinds that mark an good opening! One gets a
little apprehensive that whether there would be
something better in store as we move along!
One of the favorite composer duos with Salman Khan,
Sajid-Wajid get an opportunity to compose a qawalli
'Tu Mila De'. But don't expect
a riotous outing as this time around the qawalli
has a sad theme and belongs to the 'dard-e-judaai'
genre. Who else but Sonu Nigam would have been apt
for singing such a track and he delivers completely.
A catchy tune, it is a gift in platter for all Salman
Khan fans who are sure to love his performance while
the song is played on screen, especially in the
B and C centers.
Kunal Ganjawala gets himself into the trap of 'O
O Oyoo' from 'Bheege Honth Tere' [Murder] once again
with 'Jo Maangi Khuda Se'. A sugar
coated love song that moves at a leisurely pace
and has romance written all over it especially with
aid from Kunal's lovelorn rendition, it makes for
a decent hearing and actually grows on you as you
hear it a couple of times. Yet another above average
song that helps in sustaining your interest in the
rest of the album, it may actually help if the song
is publicized soon for it to be noticed more.
After Kunal, even Jaspinder Narula comes up with
a solo rendition of 'Jo Maangi Khuda Se'.
Well, this time around you start liking it from
the very first note of the song itself though there
is a surprise in store with the way in which Aadesh
Srivastava has worked around Jaspinder's voice and
modulated it in a big way with the help of technology.
Instead of high bass, her voice has a metallic feel
to it that sounds completely different from what
you have heard of her in last decade or so. Hear
it to believe it!
Vasundhara Das, who is generally extremely selective
about her work in Bollywood, croons 'Ready
For Love' that belongs to the 80s disco
category. A Hinglish number, it turns out to be
extremely ordinary with equally ordinary lyrics.
A song about a girl who says she is ready for love
now (whatever that means!); it appears to be a stock
tune that Aadesh may have created at least a decade
and a half back. And no, even the nostalgia factor
doesn't get you interested in the proceedings. This
one belongs to 'skip this song' category! And imagine,
we thought that Vasundhara Das was being selective
all this while!
'Maine Pyaar Kiya Tumhe Reason Se, Bas Love
Hi Hai Reason, Saaawan - The Love Season'
– Ok, so such lyrics are pardonable for just
two 'Reasons' - Aadesh's soulful tune and good singing
by both Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan. A love song,
obviously, one wonders if the tune may have worked
a little better if the lyrics were different from
the current form. What is noticeable though about
the song is the lead pair of the movie, Kapil and
especially Saloni, who look good with each other
in it.
Arabic tune marks the beginning of 'Mere
Dil Ko Dil Ki Dhadkan Ko' and one understands
that this is yet another song belonging to Middle-East.
A situational song sung by Shreya Ghoshal, it instead
seems tailor-made for Kavita Krishnamurthy. Yet
another ordinary number that may have been heard
in at least a couple of dozen versions in the past,
it comes dangerously comes to 'Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo'
[Jaanbaaz], especially when Shaan comes on the scene.
Avoidable!
Ironically Saaawan Kumar's last film 'Dil Pardesi
Ho Gaya' had much better music where he had reunited
with Usha Khanna as a composer. A 'heard today,
gone tomorrow' kind of album from all accounts,
'Saaawan - The Love Season' is surprisingly an average
album for a Saaawan Kumar movie when one expected
him to go full throttle in his comeback effort.

Music Procures ´Saaawan´ Audio For
A Good Price
By: Abid
While it is true that Salman is not the hero of
'Saaawan -The Love Season' ( a fact that has not
been hidden by the makers) , his presence in a
special appearance was enough to get a good price
for the audio rights . According to our music
industry sources , Times Music , which has been
lying low for a while ( specially in case of Bollywood
albums) was looking for a potential winner . And
when they saw the first DVD promo of Sawan Kumar's
'Saaawan -The Love Season' ( featuring Salman
in a Jesus like get up !) , they went ahead and
bought the audio rights for a good price ( in
today's times) .What's more , Sawan still has
many of the sundry audio rights with him , ala

Salman Khan's derring-do
in SAAWAN
By Nitin n Sethi, Bollywood Trade News Network |
|
| SAAWAN - The Love SeasonThere are times, when Salman
Khan goes out of his way to accommodate his producers.
Saawan Kumar is one such beneficiary of Salman Khan's
large-heartedness. For Saawan Kumar's forthcoming
unusual oeuvre 'SAAWAN-The Love Season' not only did
Salman Khan dole out priority dates at a stretch,
but also performed death-defying feats himself. For
his introductory scene in the film, he was required
to rescue the heroine (played by Saloni Aswani) on
mid-street from a mishap. In order to bring out more
authenticity, Salman declined a dupe and he himself
performed the stunt when two speeding vehicles clashed.
For a moment during the shot, there was a stunned
silence, following which the crowds went into raptures
of applause for Salman's derring-do! The scene in
the film comes as a turning point in the narrative,
from where the story takes a dramatic twist. Hang
on, till April this year, then, when SAAWAN - The
Love Season hits the cinemas all over! |

Promo watch - Saawan
Exclusive by Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday,
February 21, 2006] |
|
There may be uncertainty around
forthcoming Salman Khan releases due to 1 year imprisonment
announcement for Salman Khan but in the meanwhile
his fans still have some reasons to rejoice as his
'Saawan - The Love Season' gets ready to release.
Produced and directed by Saawan Kumar who roped
in Khan around a decade and a half back for his
superhit film 'Sanam Bewafa', their second coming
looks promising too in 'Saawan' that should cater
to the masses.
We caught hold of a quick 30 seconds promo of the
film and the first reaction that comes is that the
movie should keep Salman's fans happy, at least
in the B and C centers. Here we present a review
of how the promo goes.
By the look of things, it becomes pretty apparent
that Salman Khan is shown to be a man who comes
with supernatural powers. But the setting of the
movie is completely contemporary with a present
day setting. First shot of the promo begins with
a focus on Salman's eyes followed by a tight close-up
and a caption that goes as "The man who saw tomorrow".
With the length of his hair more than that of Aamir
Khan in 'Mangal Pandey', it gives a deadly feel
on the screen as Salman (with a light beard on)
looks straight into the camera with his eyes doing
all the talking.
As Salman looks heavenwards while standing in the
middle of a street and then closes his eyes, the
captions follow around the three signs. These are
the signs that bring a mystic feel to the proceedings.
The First Sign You Cannot Explain
The Second Sign You Cannot Ignore
The Third Sign You Cannot Believe
|
|
The background score is a chorus
that has a haunting effect while making you glued
on to see what follows next. The promo reaches its
crescendo when there are a few cars blasting next
to each other and whirling in the air a la Guddu
Dhanoa's movies from the 90s. Just after the blast,
Salman looks at the accident around him and conveys
an impression as if he expected that this was on
the way.
Next shot is in a dark alley/basement where he is
wearing a black vest and gets into a hand-on-hand
with a goon who attacks him from the behind. Since
he comes with supernatural powers, he is shown to
be reacting in a split second motion and catches
hold of the goon's hand taking him by surprise.
As he looks into the eyes of his attacker, once
again there is an eerie feeling that gives a good
idea about the character he plays.
A question that follows is whether all this happening
on screen is due to God, Love, Coincidence, Destiny
or something else.
Promo ends with a yellow dupatta flying across the
screen with a clear blue sky in the background and
the movie's title 'Saawan - The Love Season'.
Also starring Kapil Jhaveri and Saloni Aswani, who
were the lead pair in Saawan Kumar's last film 'Dil
Pardesi Ho Gaya', 'Saawan - The Love Season' should
be the first Salman release in coming few months.

Love season for Saawan Kumar!
Saawan Kumar Tak, the once prolific filmmaker,
is all set to make a grand comeback with a new
film that he claims is going to revive his lost
glory. "My last few films haven't been that successful
and it's because I didn't make them from my heart.
I listened to other people's advice, got carried
away and in the process messed it up," says Saawan.
He now claims that his latest film Saawan, The
love Season is straight from his heart. "I'm sure
it will bring back success and help me regain
my lost glory," says the filmmaker. For Saawan's
sake, let’s hope his love season brings
him all the luck!

Salman
helped Saawan hold ground
- By Our Correspondent
In an industry where filmstars are friends of
success but forget you when you fail, filmmaker
Saawan Kumar Tak has found a true friend
in actor Salman Khan. The director, who
was famous for his souten films, had been practically
written off by the film industry after a series
of flops. Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya starring newcomers
Kapil Jhaveri and Salloni was his last release.
Saawan Kumar said that his attempt to pick up
the pieces of his career as a director was encouraged
by only Salman Khan. He says, "When I
approached him for Saaawan — The Love Season,
he not only agreed to do my film, but also offered
me financial aid. I told him, ‘I just require
your presence in my film. I have the money.’"
Saawan hesitantly approached Salman, wondering
if he would agree to act in the film. "As none
of my films had done well at the box office, I
was initially sceptical about Salman agreeing
to work with me. Today I can say that I have only
two friends in the film industry: Salman
and his father Salim Khan," he adds.
The film has been shot in South Africa and Dubai.
Saawan had earlier planned to complete Salman
Khan’s shooting in just four days. "Imagine
my surprise when he told me, ‘Saawan, four
days will not be enough. I will give you more
days so that you can build on my character.’"

EXCLUSIVE: SAAWAN STILLS

SALMAN IN SAWAN'S
'SAWAN'
By Kaydee - Eye TV India Bureau
In the News
Sawan Kumar who made several hit movies
in Bollywood in the past is very desperate to repeat one
after fourteen years. So, he had prepared a script but
was looking for a hero to suit the script. Sawan thought
of Salman who has worked with him in the latter's initial
days in two movies?'Sanam Bewafa' and Sridevi starrer
'Chaand Ka Tukda'. Luckily, one day Sawan called on Salman
Khan who was busy shooting at Mukesh Mills in Mumbai.
Sawan was too touched when he found that Salman had not
only welcomed him but offered him dates to do his cherished
movie. Sawan hesitatingly sought only seven days' dates
from him for shooting. Sawan Kumar has named the movie'
Sawan'. When the shooting for 'Sawan' began the Smashits
team met with Sawan on the sets at Mukesh Mills in Mumbai.
We were anxious to see Sallu in his new hair style as
told by several friends. No sooner we reached the sets
than we heard a song ? Jaan Ko Meri Chheen Liya Hai, Dard
Se Aisa Dil Ro Diya Hai? being picturized on Salman under
the music directorship of Ganesh Acharya. During the lunch
break, we inquired from Sawan Kumar about Sallu's character
in the movie. Sawan told us that Salman's role is too
sensitive, and this movie would certainly leave his sensitive
image. He added , ?
Though Salman had given me seven days' dates , but he
has now extended his dates to 25 . Incidentally, I told
Salman that I had written his role for 25 days, but reduced
it to seven days keeping in view his preoccupation in
his other professional work.
However, after Salman began shooting for 'Sawan' and
found the role interesting , he grew interest in the movie
and agreed to give me 25 days for shooting.? This is indeed
great for the movie and Sawan Kumar. Informing about the
cast, Sawan says that Kapil Zaveri and Saloni who had
earlier worked in his ' Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya' are playing
romantic roles. The movie has six songs, and everyone
of these has its own value. The shooting will take place
at various locations in London, Cape Town and Mumbai.
Besides, two comedians --Johny Lever and Bobby Darling--
will make people laugh. Prem Chopra and Ranjeet are also
playing their nice roles.
Later, Salman came out and spoke to us that he had worked
in Sawan Kumar's two movies?'Sanam Bewafa' and Sridevi
starrer 'Chaand Ka Tukda' in the early years of my filmi
career. Sawan had signed me when I had just entered the
industry. Regarding the present movie, Sallu said, ? I
had initially agreed for a guest appearance only, but
I felt later that the role is too good and I offered him
as many dates as he liked. You will see me in a new look
in 'Sawan', and I am sure that the viewers will like it
too.?

Salman Khan and Sawan Kumar Tak:
Salman Khan has stepped in to bail out filmmaker Sawan
Kumar Tak’s next film, which is in hot water. Tak,
whose recent films have not done well, is glad to have
Salman in his movie. Salman didn’t shave for eight
days to suit the character in the film.
Salman does movie for free!
18th Oct 2005 21.00 IST
By Nikhil Kumar
He may hit the headlines more for wrong reasons, but
the truth is that Salman Khan is a friend of friends –
a man with a generous heart.
The latest gesture of Salman’s generosity is that
he has agreed to act in producer-director Saawan Kumar
Tak’s movie Saawan for free.
Salman, who normally charges Rs 4 crores for each film,
decided to do the movie for free because Saawan Kumar
Tak was in financial crisis.
Tak is Salman’s good friend and a mentor. The second
hit movie of Salman’s career, Sanam Bewafa, was
made by Tak.
Initially, Salman was slated to play just a marginal
role in Saawan. He had a song appearance and some scenes
in the climax.
Due to the absence of any big star in the lead, the movie’s
market value was meager 75 lakhs. But Salman liked the
script and knew well that the movie’s value would
skyrocket if he played a major role. So he extended his
appearance in the movie from a mere cameo to a full-fledged
role.
And none could be happier than the movie’s maker
who is now assured that his dues would be cleared.
Saawan will have Salman donning a new look. He plays
a bearded, longhaired character in the film. The movie
would also introduce newcomers Kapil Jhaveri and Saloni.
Salman Khan's 'free' gesture

Who says kindness and compassion has disappeared from
Bollywood? Salman Khan has acted in Sawan Kumar Tak's
forthcoming film, 'Sawaan', absolutely free of cost. Earlier,
Khan was just meant to be a special appearance but he
got his role lengthened and now almost plays the main
lead.
'Sawaan' which had a market value of Rs 75 lakh in making,
has now been sold for a whooping amount. It goes without
saying that Tak, who has had a torrid time at the box-office
after his last hit 'Sanam Bewafa', is going gaga over
the hunk.

Salman Khan, who is believed to charge
Rs 4 crore per film, has gone all out to extend support
to his friend and mentor, producer-director Saawan Kumar
Tak — Sallu will play the lead in Tak’s forthcoming
film, Sawaan, absolutely free of cost. Earlier, Khan’s
was meant to be a special appearance; he has now extended
his role and plays the main lead in the film.
New lease of life
“He has come back as a godman in my life,”
says Tak. I was drowning; he lifted me from deep waters.
Salman gave the second hit of his life with Sanam Bewafa,
for which I had signed him for Rs 4 lakh. Now, this generous
man has returned my glory.”
Salman, considered a thorough professional,
is said to charge for whatever he does, even for cameo
roles.
Sawaan, which had a market value of Rs 75 lakh in making,
has now been sold for exuberant amount because Khan’s
in it — clearing all Tak’s outstanding dues.

and feature in the climax scenes, but the powerful script

Salman Khan is known as the king of the masses and has
already given four superhits in the current year. Since
six years, Sawaan Kumar has nothing to offer, but with
Khan clubbing with him after the second superhit of Salman’s
career (Sanam Bewafa), this one too will be a grosser
for the producer
— Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who believes Salman
is presently the only hero who has around Rs 100 crore
riding on him in Bollywood.
Salman's next after 'Kyon Ki'
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, October 18, 2005]
If one thought that a terrific year for Salman Khan would
end with 'Kyon Ki' this Diwali then that's not the case
as his hands are full till the end of December.
Come the peak winter season and the climate will become
all 'sawan' with 'SAAAWAN' [watch the three As!] that
is slated to release this December. Produced and directed
by Saawan Kumar [it's a double A in this case!], the movie
was supposed to have Salman Khan in a guest appearance
to begin with but as per the latest developments, his
role has been remarkably extended to project him as a
lead star in the movie.
The first look of the movie is something that should
appeal to the masses in a great way, what with Salman
Khan's new hairdo [reminding of Sanjay Dutt of his Khalnayak
and Kartoos days] that covers half his face, a rough appearance,
street-smart wardrobe and flying cars in the background
that portray the movie as yet another 'violent love story'.
Going by Salman's current popularity, its not just half
but 95% of the battle won for Saawan Kumar as he can easily
expect a thunderous initial. If the movie could account
for rest of the 5% then it should be a 'sawan' time once
again for the producer-director who has been waiting for
a success for a long time now.

Salman comes to the rescue!
Salman's generosity is legendary in Bollywood and everyone
who knows the star closely swears by his large-heartedness.
Recently it's filmmaker Sawan Kumar Tak who just can't
stop praising Sallu bhai. "I have worked with Salman
before and I was keen to work with him again in my forthcoming
film Saawan - The Love Season"? he told us. So I
approached him and told him, "I'm in trouble and
you have to bail me out."? Salman immediately offered
me a few lakhs. I was very touched by his gesture. But
I didn't need the money. All I needed was him to do a
special appearance in my next movie. He gave me dates
on the spot. When we started shooting for the motion picture,
Salman got so inspired that what started as a special
appearance turned out to be a full-fledged role. And after
the shoot when I offered him his fees, he wouldn't accept
even a penny"? There are some things that money just
can't buy, eh!
SAAWAN LEAVES FOR LONDON
Writer-lyricist-producer-director Saawan Kumar left for
London to scout locales for the picturization of an additional
song of SAAWAN – THE LOVE SEASON, being made under
the banner of Saawan Kumar Productions. Cast: Salman Khan,
Kapil, Saloni, Johny Lever, Ranjeet, Bobby Darling and
Prem Chopra. Music: Aadesh Shrivastava.

Salman Khan
in a new look again!!
By Correspondent, Bollywood Trade News Network
Salman, it seems, is all set to give
Gulshan Grover a run for his money! The macho star is
will be seen donning a new hairstyle again in filmmaker
Saawan Kumar's new film SAAWAN. Salman's atypical hairdo
in the hit TERE NAAM had become the talk of the town and
soon became a craze amongst the youngsters. This time
around he is back with long flowing hairs with street-boy
attire and prominent stubble. SAAWAN is a love story flaunting
the tagline 'Love incarnates'. Salman has always been
associated with trend-ism and flamboyance, which he carries
off with perfection on-screen. His colourful outfits,
sparkling demeanor and hunky exploits have always enticed
his fans and have only multiplied his star persona manifold.
SAAWAN is Sawan Kumar's immediate movie after DIL PARDESI
HO GAYA with music provided by Aadesh Srivastav.
New
styles and makeovers are fast becoming a fad with many
Bollywood actors nowadays. Baddies Gulshan Grover and
Danny pioneered this fashion and now it appears that the
heroes have taken over this rage. Shahrukh lacing up a
moustache for PAHELI, Anil Kapoor with a peppy get-up
in MUSAFIR, Big B trimming off his beard for KHAKEE or
more recently Aamir Khan's stride in MANGAL PANDEY - THE
RISING are the most famous instances. But clearly, its
Salman whose on-screen guise goes in tandem with his off-screen
splendor. TERE NAAM was a massive hit with Salman's uncommon
haircut playing a major role in the success. So with SAAWAN
is he hoping to resurrect his 'hair' raising success one
more time!
