Salman Accepts Failure - IndiaFM: August 16, 2004
Very few actors are prepared to face facts! Coming to terms with the fact that their film hasn't worked at the box-office could prove to be a thorny task for a majority of actors, especially since most of them are surrounded by the 'yes sir' types. Besides, if the film happens to be a home-production or is directed by their kin, facing failures could prove to be a frustrating experience.
Though it must've been tough for him to come to terms, Salman Khan has graciously accepted the fact that DIL NE JISE APNA KAHAA, directed by brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri and distributed in Mumbai by brother Sohail Khan [along with Bharat Shah], hasn't worked magic at the box-office.
Most actors do have the standard quote when they discuss the box-office performance of their movies: "Oh, it's been immensely appreciated." Appreciated, may be, but where is the moolah?
At the PHIR MILENGE bash, Salman [there's a sea-change in his attitude these days; he's radiating extremely positive vibes!] admitted to this writer that the film hasn't worked. "I am feeling bad for Atul. He'd invested so much into this film. Do you think it'll affect him?" he asks me with child-like innocence.
My answer is a blunt yes, but I add that more than financially, it's emotionally going to pinch him. The Fridays in the industry are the most dreaded days and everyone associated with movies knows it too well by now.
Salman agrees that the film would've met with a better fate had it been released after a substantial gap. "It's not a bad film at all," he defends, "Anyways, there's always the next time." True, optimism rules!
Salman on DNJAK - Rediff: August 10, 2004

After playing an obsessive fellow in Satish Kaushik's Tere Naam, Salman Khan plays a lovelorn character in  Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa , opposite  Tere Naam  heroine Bhoomika Chawla.
The film is written and directed by Salman's brother-in-law, actor Atul Agnihotri.
Atul is married to Salman's sister, Alvira.
Dil Ne Jise... also stars Preity Zinta, with Riya Sen in a special appearance.
Rishabh (Salman) works in a media company and is romantically involved with a doctor, Pari (Preity).
The couple dreams of building a charitable hospital for the poor. Unfortunately, Pari dies in an accident, and the dream remains incomplete.
Rishabh becomes very lonely, but his life takes a turn for the better when he meets Dhani (Bhoomika).
" Dil Ne Jise... is totally the opposite of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Garv, " says Salman. "I liked Rishabh's character. How well I have played the character will be decided by the audience."
"If the film becomes a hit,' the actor adds modestly, "the credit goes to Atul. If it doesn't do well, I will be responsible because that would mean I did not play Rishabh's role properly. My character is fantastic.
The film's success and failure depends on that." Pari's part was to have been played by Salman's then girlfriend Aishwarya Rai. Dil Ne Jise... is Atul's directorial debut. The actor starred in Mahesh Bhatt's Sir and K S Adiyaman's Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam. This is Preity's third film with Salman, after Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke.

Salman Return To Me - August 05, 2004
Salman Khan is on a roll. He has delivered three hits in a row. The success of Tere Naam, Garv and now, Mujhse Shaadi Karonge has proved his box office clout beyond doubt. Next on cards is the sensitive Phir Milenge, a film based on the AIDS issue, directed by Revathy. Salman reportedly plays the role of an AIDS victim in the film. Giving him company in the film are Abhishek Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty. With Revathy at the helms and Salman in the lead, this film too is sure to garner critical acclaim. And no one can be happier about this fact than actor turned director Atull Agnihoutri. Mind you, we have not mis-spelt his name. He has changed the spelling for numerological reasons. Atull's directorial debut Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa is all set for release. Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa is a love story and stars Priety Zinta in a lead role. According to grapevine the film is based on the Minnie Driver starrer Hollywood flick Return To Me, which tells the story of a young man who loses his wife and falls in love with a woman who has received the heart donated by his wife.
Salman different in DNJAK - August 04, 2004
Salman Khan Actor Atul Agnihotri's life underwent a metamorphosis when he decided to direct a film. Starting out as director Pankaj Parashar's assistant, then being launched as an actor, and now making his directorial debut with DIL NE JISE APNA KAHAA, Atul's life has come a full circle.
"DIL NE JISE APNA KAHAA has shaped up exactly the way I had conceived it," Atul informs me. Incidentally, Atul has added an extra 'l' to his name, which is now spelt as Atull. Even surname Agnihotri will now be spelt as Agniho'u'tri. For numerological reasons? "Yes, somebody suggested that I add that an extra 'l' and 'u' for numerological reasons. I've tried too many things in my life, so I said to myself, let's try this one as well," he smiles.
There seems to be an overdose of Salman Khan starrers in the marquee. While both GARV and MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI have been released, the third Salman starrer PHIR MILENGE is slated for release on August 27, while Atul's film, DIL NE JISE APNA KAHAA, will hit the screens on September 10.
"Every film is different," Atul seems unfazed by the overdose, "GARV was a violent film, MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI is a fun-filled entertainer, PHIR MILENGE is an issue-based film, while DIL NE JISE APNA KAHAA is a love story. Even Salman is different in all the films, so nothing to worry."
Incidentally, A.R. Rahman has composed three songs in DIL NE JISE APNA KAHAA, while Himesh Reshammiya has tuned the remaining three.
Special Appearances - Bollyvista: July 31, 2004

DJAK Actor turned director Atull Agnihoutri's debut directorial flick, 'Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa', will feature Riya Sen in a special appearance as Preity's sister. Likewise, Preity Zinta (who is clearly seen in the film's promos) also has an extended guest appearance. The Salman Khan-starrer features his 'Tere Naam' girl, Bhumika Chawla, as the main lead.

The film is reportedly a remake of 'Return To Me'. Here, after Preity's (who adores Salman) demise, her heart gets transplanted into Bhumika's body and the latter falls in love with Salman. A similar film was to be made several years back by Humayun Mirza. Called 'Ek Tha Dil Ek Thi Dhadkan', the film starred Inder Kumar, Ayub Khan and Ishaa Koppikar. Sadly, the film never saw the light of day!
Preity's song added: July 2, 2004
Initially, she was supposed to have only a special appearance in the Salman Khan - Bhoomika Chawla starrer, 'Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha'. But now a song featuring the unacknowledged queen, Preity Zinta, has been added to the Atul Agnihotri directed film.
Himesh Reshmiya replaces A R Rahman - Indiatimes: June 18, 2004
Post hits like Humraaz and Tere Naam, music director Himesh Reshmiya needs no introduction. But he's quick to give credit to Salman Khan. I owe Salman (Khan) bhai a lot. We share a long relationship that has been 100 per cent successful. I have composed the music for seven of his films and they've all been hits, right from 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya' to 'Tere Naam'.' What's more, he's now composing the music for Atul Agnihotri's 'Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha' which had AR Rahman as the music director earlier. 'We will still retain two songs composed by Rahman, but the rest of the music has been done by me. I am a great admirer of Rahman; so there is no controversy involved here. Atul just heard some of the tunes I had composed earlier and liked what he heard, and it just went ahead from there.' So the Khan family scores another for HR, huh?
November 27, 2003
Orion Mad Films´ Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha is 50% complete. A further 20-day shooting schedule will begin on December 1st. Being produced by Sunil Manchanda and Mukesh Talreja and directed by Atul Agnihotri, the film stars Salman Khan, Priety Zinta, Bhoomika Chawla, Rati Agnihotri, Helen and Aasif Shaikh. The film has music is by A.R. Rehman and lyrics by Mehboob.
Races Ahead - November 15, 2003
Producer Sunil Manchanda has finished shooting 40 per cent of his forthcoming film, starring Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Bhoomika Chawla. Titled DIL NE JISE APNA KAHA, the film is being directed by Salman's brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri. "It's a mature love story. We should complete the shooting by February and are looking at releasing it by August," informs Manchanda. After shooting in Mumbai, he hopes to can the balance portions in Goa and a foreign locale. "We haven't still finalised the location abroad. But it won't be Switzerland for sure," he states. Meanwhile, he is in the process of finalising the script of his next venture, a romantic comedy, to be directed by Priyadarshan.
On the sets - November 12, 2003
The set is a bungalow in Mumbai's suburb Versova, which has become a film hub today. The cute cottage with a neat garden seems ideal for a picnic and the cast and crew are sitting out and having lunch. Preity Zinta too is there, having lunch and talking nineteen to a dozen. Co-star Salman Khan listens indulgently and director Atul Agnihotri plays passive audience. The scene is the location of Atul Agnihotri's Dilne Jise Apna Kaha.
Salman dressed in vest, white shorts and a white cap looks cool in the hot afternoon sun, while everyone else is stewing in their full make up and clothes. Current flame Katrina Kaif dressed in black trousers and shirt seems to be having fun as she relaxes.
Salman as usual looks full of mischief as he smilingly pays attention to what Preity is saying so intensely. Atul Agnihotri is Salman's brother-in-law, and perhaps, that's why there's such friendly camaraderie on the sets.
Preity dressed in a sea-green chiffon-embroidered churidar kurta looks lovely as usual. Lunch over, she can't decide where to sit down for a short chat. Finally, she decides on her make-up van and we settle down. But she must have ice-cream before we start.
She grins when I tell her she's lost weight. I've been working out, she explains. No dieting and stuff? I ask. Pat comes the reply: "I try to eat healthy, but see I am eating ice-cream so I break my diet. I can't starve myself. I'm basically a foodie."
And does this foodie cook? "Yes, everything. I make the most fabulous pastas, Indian food, parathas, club sandwishes, all of that. When you enjoy food you find ways to cook!"
Lunch over everyone disperses into their nooks, while the crew gets to work to get the next shot ready. Preity is called out for her shot. She is to drive a waiting car and zoom away. She does it in a jiffy and is back in no time. She confesses that while she is working, she is very focused. But once shooting is over, she guards her free time with utmost passion. "I need my free time. I enjoy my work. But I must live too, so I refuse to do anything work related in my free time!"
You can't blame her, her high-spirited energy needs an outlet and she finds this in sport, in traveling, and in spending time with friends. But she gives her full focus to her work when she is on the sets.
Actress Changed - July 31, 2003
While on Salman Khan, his jeeja Atul Agnihotri is all set to start his directorial debut DIL NE JISE APNA KAHA in August-end/September. To be produced by Gordhan Tanwani, who'd earlier produced ISHQ, DULHAN HUM LE JAAYENGE and TUMKO NA BHOOL PAAYENGE, the film will be shot in five schedules.
Initially, Atul had signed Aishwarya Rai for the female lead, but Preity Zinta has now stepped in her shoes. ''I've just retained the title of the earlier project, otherwise this is an altogether fresh subject," Atul clarifies.
A.R. Rahman has already recorded two songs for the film, which will be shot on sets in Mumbai, while a major schedule will take place abroad. "We've yet to decide on the foreign country," he adds.
Atul feels the delay in starting the project has come as a blessing. ''I got sufficient time to do the pre-production work, besides getting important opinions on the script. I'm more confident now than I ever was," he admits.
Confirmed - April 03, 2001

This writer was the first to break the news that actor Atul Agnihotri had turned director and brother-in-law Salman Khan would star in the film. But not many are aware that Atul had great difficulty in finalising the second hero for the project. From Shah Rukh to Hrithik, everyone Atul approached, he got the same reply - no dates. But Atul has finally selected the second hero for the project - it's none other than Sohail Khan.

Yes folks, brothers Salman and Sohail will come face to face in jija Atul's debut vehicle, titled DIL NE JISE APNA KAHA. An excited Atul tells me that he has already completed the script of the film and is now taking the necessary permissions from the army to shoot within the army premises. "DIL NE JISE APNA KAHA tells the story of two friends who fall in love with the same girl. One is an orphan (Salman), while the other is an army officer's son (Sohail). The film moves on two tracks simultaneously - their friendship and the love interest," Atul sums up the plot of the film. Atul has more surprises up his sleeve. He has signed Aishwarya Rai to play the leading lady, while A.R. Rahman will compose the music. The supporting cast includes Om Puri and Atul's cousin Rati Agnihotri. To be produced by G.S. Entertainments (Bunty Walia, Sohail Khan), DIL NE JISE APNA KAHA will go before the camera in November/December this year. PS Can you guess who will win Ash's dil in the end - Salman or Sohail?
