September 06,
2000 - HDJPK enters UK Top 10
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has every
reason to throw a party. As latest reports indicate, his
new film Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega is creating quite a few
records abroad. In the United Kingdom alone, the film grossed
about US$320,000 in its very first week. The Salman Khan-Preity
Zinta-Rani Mukherjee starrer has ever since entered the
UK Top 10, where it's firmly seated for the past three weeks.
According to the buzz, most UK theatres that released the
film have retained it on the screen, having earned at an
average $16,000 in box office collection. That pitches the
Raj Kanwar-directed film into the ranks of all time greatest
overseas hits such as Dilwaale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, Kuch
Kuch Hota Hai and Hum Aapke Hain Koun! An impressive show
that, considering the film is a take-off on the Hollywood
hit, While You Were Sleeping. Back home, the film has done
average to good business in the various territories and
most distributors are happy.
August 20, 2000 - Har Dil Jo Party
Karega!
The producer of the latest Salman Khan-Preity-Rani
starrer threw a bash earlier this week at the Centaur, Juhu
to celebrate the "success" of the music and that of his
film, 'Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega.' (What? It's been just two
weeks since it released!) Like all filmi bashes, this one
too started a couple of hours late. While Sajid played the
gracious host, hugging everyone around, Preity and he dashed
off a little later in to a corner to catch up on the latest
gossip, we presume. The good-looking Khan, Salman entered
'just' one and a half hour late clad in a sober white shirt
and black jeans and walked straight to the Khan camp where
brother Arbaaz waited in a black, see-through shirt. Rani
was nowhere to be seen, till about 11:00 p.m and when she
did come, there were lots of heads turning as Preity and
she got cosy. (Hey, don't you go around getting ideas!)
Preity was escorted by beau Marc and refused to let photographers
take pix of them together. All that's fine, but was there
reason enough to celebrate? Now, that's the question.

August 08, 2000 - Box Office
The film industry is buzzing with activity.
like never before. People are coming back to the theatres
in a big way and that's a positive sign for film producers
and distributors whose films had faced a rough ride at the
turnstiles. The week gone by witnessed the release of 'Har
Dil Jo Pyar Karega', which took a fabulous start all over.
When your film takes a flying start (opening), half the
battle is won! This adage has proven correct for the Salman
Khan - Rani Mukherji - Preity Zinta starrer 'Har Dil Jo
Pyar Karega', which is reportedly inspired by the Malayalam
hit 'Chandralekha, which in turn was inspired by the Sandra
Bullock - Bill Pullman film 'While You Were Sleeping'.
'Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega' took a great start from its very
first show, opening to a cent per cent response all over
the country. And this can be attributed to five factors:
The face-value of the film is very strong and the pairing
looks fresh;
Anu Malik's music is already popular and on top of the charts;
The story is different and the treatment (screenplay) is
captivating;
The fabulous pre-release promotion of the film;
Lady luck.
'Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega' is an apt example of a well-made
commercial film. The film has all it takes to please the
hoipolloi - emotions, drama and light moments, grand songs.
in fact everything that makes you forget your sorrows for
three complete hours. It takes you to a world of make-believe,
a world so different from the one we live in. And that's
where escapist cinema really scores, for it transports you
into an altogether different world in those few hours. Business-wise,
'Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega' has been sold for a moderate amount
and keeping in mind its terrific start, half the battle
is won. But will it sustain in the days to come, we will
have to wait and watch the situation. If it sustains, it
will be declared a big hit. If it doesn't, it will still
be profitable for its investors, thanks to the great opening
and reasonable price.

June 20, 2000 - Song at the concert
If you attended Millenium Masti in the
United States, Canada, or U.K., then you will definitely
recognize the "Aate Jaate Jo Milta Hai" from Har Dil Jo
Pyar Karega. Salman Khan showed off his singing skills at
the concert with this song. He told the audience that he
was in love with this song and could not get it out of his
mind. After hearing it, there is no question as to why Salman
was feeling that way. It is a very infectious love song,
sung by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. The only unattractive
feature of the song is the fact that Alka and an unidentified
male singer interrupt the flow of the song with conversation.
Regardless, the song is really nice and is probably the
best one on the soundtrack.
June 13, 2000 - Publicity
Both producer Sajid Nadiadwala and music
company Super Cassettes, which holds the music rights of
Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, are going all out to promote the
film. The photographs have been printed on silver paper,
giving them an extraordinary metallic look. Super Cassettes'
music hamper contains not just the film's music cassette
and CD, but a number of other things -- a calculator, a
writing pad, a note pad, tea-coasters, a pen and a trendy
baseball cap. All of which are either in shocking pink coloured
packages or are actually coloured shocking pink. While the
pink definitely shocks, the effort and the expenditure involved
shocks even more. Incidentally, David Dhawan's wife, who
has seen the rushes of Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, was heard
telling Preity Zinta how much she liked it. The film also
stars Salman Khan and Rani Mukherji. This is one film that
is expected to take a great start when it releases on August
4.
