´Kyon Ki´ has
a ´Diwali´ Campanion In ´Garam Masala´
By: Abid
It now seems that 'Kyon Ki' may not be the solo release
on November 2 ('Diwali') as Venus , the makers of 'Garam
Masala' have decided to prepone from November 3 and
release their movie on the same date as 'Kyon Ki' .
In other words what it technically means is that 'Shaadi
No.1 ' is the only 'Eid' release on November 3 !May
the best one win .

Priyadarshan vs Priyadarshan this Diwali
By Subhash K. Jha
This Diwali will find the super-prolific Priyadarshan
in a peculiar position at the box office. He will be
competing against himself!
Speaking from Chennai, Priyan sighs loudly at the irony
of it. 'Can you believe it! Two of my Hindi films 'Kyun
Ki' and 'Garam Masala' are being released on the same
day this Diwali!'
Though he says a director competing against himself
has never happened before, it has -- in 1992, David
Dhawan's 'Deewana Mastana' and 'Mr & Mrs Khiladi'
were released the same day.
'I'm not aware of this,' Priyan is unfazed.
'All I know is my Friday twin-release is unlikely to
be self-destructive for the simple reason that they
are very different films. While 'Garam Masala' is an
out-and-out comedy adapted from my Malayalam film 'Boeing
Boeing', 'Kyun Ki' is an original script about the relationship
between a doctor and her patient. It was originally
inspired by Milos Foreman's 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's
Nest'. But I'm told there's an element of an old Hindi
film 'Khamoshi' (directed by Asit Sen) in 'Kyun Ki'.
I'm looking for a DVD of that film.'
'Kyun Ki' is Priyan's first non-comedy in Hindi since
the successful 'Viraasat'. 'And if 'Kyun Ki' doesn't
work, I can always go back to my safe formula of comedy
in Hindi,' he chortles.
Pausing to ponder over the competition crisis this
Diwali, Priyan observes, 'I made 'Kyun Ki' and 'Garam
Masala' in two different timeframes. They were never
meant to be released together. If the producers have
decided to release both this Diwali, what can I do?
All I can say is I hope audiences find both equally
exciting.'
So, as a member of the audience, which should one see
first? 'I'd advise you to see 'Kyun Ki' first because
it's a serious film. And then go for 'Garam Masala'
because it's a laugh riot.'

Kyonki...this is Khamoshi’s
remake
Priyadarshan’s Salman starrer bears an uncanny
resemblance to Asit Sen's original
Subhash K Jha
As we brace ourselves for the double bonanza from Priyadarshan
this Diwali, it becomes increasingly apparent that the
prolific Priyan isn't in an original mood this festive
season.
Priyan's first Diwali release Garam Masala is a remake
of his 1985 Malyalam comedy Boeing Boeing. As he remakes
yet another Malayalam film with Shahid Kapoor and Kareena
Kapoor in Chennai (about a man who's washed ashore in
a fishing village and is nursed back to health by a
deaf-and-mute girl), Priyan has a surprise for fans
of celluloid maestro Asit Sen.
Contrary to popular belief the much-publicised Salman-Kareena
starrer Kyon Ki… has scant bearing to Milos Foreman's
One Flew over The Cuckoo's Nest. The film is actually
a remake of Sen's 1969 psychological drama Khamoshi
in which the traumatised patient Rajesh Khanna is healed
by the nurse played by Waheeda Rehman; who in the process
falls in love with him and goes insane.
Interestingly, Asit Sen had remade this highly acclaimed
Hindi film from his own 1959 Bengali classic Deep Jweley
Jai where Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen had played the
lead roles. Priyan has already made this Bengali-Hindi
film in Malayalam called Thalavattam in 1986. It featured
Mohanlal and Karthika playing the patient and doctor.
It now remains to be seen how effectively Salman will
portray the psychologically challenged man. Priyan on
his part denies any knowledge of Khamoshi. “I've
heard there're an uncanny similarity between Kyon Ki…
and Khamoshi. I haven't seen that film. But I'm trying
my best to get a copy to see how two filmmakers from
two different regions think similarly,” said Priyan.
KHAMOSHI'S HISTORY
• The original was Dweep Jaweley Jai in Bengali
in 1959
• Remade in Hindi as Khamoshi in 1969 by Sen
• Shakti Samanta's Pagla Kahin Ka in 1970
• Priyadarshan's Thalavattam (Malayam) in 1986
• Priyadarshan's Kyon Ki… in 2005

'I had heard horrid stories
about Salman'
Shubha Shetty-Saha
Monday, October 10, 2005 18:27 IST
Priyadarshan is a clear convert after directing Salman
Khan in 'Kyon Ki'
What made you direct a love story like 'Kyon Ki'?
I didn't want to be stamped with any particular tag.
I realised that people watch, laugh and walk out of
comedies.
But a film like 'Kyon Ki' would stay with the audience,
even after they have left the theatres. Besides, 'Kyon
Ki' has a lot of humour. It's basically a romantic film
sprinkled with comedy.
How was it working with Salman Khan for the first time?
I was very afraid. I had heard such horrid stories
about him. But when I worked with him, I realised that
all those stories were false. He is such a sweet man.
He would be present for the shooting of the film at
4.30 am every day. I could not ask for more professionalism.
When you watch one of those morning scenes, you will
see vapours (due to the chill) emreging from his mouth
(laughing). Salman tells me, 'this is the first and
last film I will do film with you.' But I am sure we
will make many more together.
If you had heard stories about Salman, why did you
cast him, and not your regular favourites, Akshay Kumar
or Akshaye Khanna?
This particular role is very tough. It needed a very
mature and experienced actor. I wanted either Shah Rukh
or Salman. Finally I settled for Salman and I am glad
I did.
But they say comedy is the toughest to play. Blending
the intense with the comic is the toughest to do.
Why are you releasing 'Garam Masala' and 'Kyon Ki'
simultaneously?
I was ready with 'Kyon Ki' much earlier, but Salman
had three other back to back releases. So I had to wait.
But I am sure both my films will do well. When you
have made good films, you know it. Besides both belong
to different genres so they cannot be competing with
each other.
By God's grace!
MOVIE PREVIEW- KYON KI
glamsham.com editorial
http://www.glamsham.com/movies/previews/kyonki.asp
The talented director Priyadarshan is conjuring up on
his next film titled KYON KI, which is a serious love
story starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the
lead. The director of late has derived the distinction
of being the uncrowned king of comedy with films like
HERA PHERI, HULCHUL and HUNGAMA proving to be sensational
hits. But Priyan (as he is fondly called) was the name
behind such unforgettable films like GARDISH, VIRASAT
and MUSKURAHAT, which were far- cries from his present
'fun-time' comic roller coasters. With KYON KI, Priyan
will be back arching up another serious tale after a
long time. The film also stars Jackie Shroff, Rimii
and Om Puri in crucial roles.
Set against the backdrop of intense romance KYON KI
is a tragic tale of two ordinary sane people's rebellion
against the insane medical ethics and medical system
as a whole.
Young and charming Anand (Salman Khan) is in love with
Maya (Rimii), a cute bubbly girl. Maya too loves Anand
but is always out to play some or the other prank on
him. Anand and Maya are planning to marry and have a
family but destiny has some other plans for them. Maya's
prankish nature results in a freak accident in which
she dies!! Unable to overcome the shock, Anand losses
his mental balance. He is sent to a mental hospital...
Here he becomes just another patient - patient no. 36.
Strict and old-fashioned Dr. Khurana (Om Puri) is the
head of the hospital who believes that brutal forces
and oppression is the only way to tackle insane patients.
Where as Dr. Tanvi (Kareena Kapoor), the young petite
daughter of Dr. Khurana, and Dr. Sunil (Jackie Shroff)
do not approve of Dr. Khurana's inhuman attitude towards
the patients. They feel that patients should be treated
with compassion, not aggression!!
Anand retaliates against the strict hospital regime
and rebels against the system. He breaks many rules
leading to a series of bittersweet incidents. Doctor
Tanvi takes up the case of Anand and treats him in her
own compassionate ways. This brings her close to Anand
and soon Anand regains his mental balance and gets completely
cured. But during the course of this treatment, Tanvi
loses her heart to Anand and he too reciprocates her
feelings.
When Dr. Khurana comes to know about this, he is outraged.
In order to separate the 'couple in love', he refuses
to accept that Anand is cured and takes him to 'shock
room' where Anand is given electrical shocks and transformed
into 'vegetable'.
After TERE NAAM, Salman will again be seen portraying
a traumatized lover. TERE NAAM was a huge hit which
got Salman's performance praises galore. Throughout
his career, Salman has always been the cheerful, boy-next-door
adorable guy on-screen and the audiences have related
to his screen image overwhelmingly, be it MAINE PYAR
KIYA, SAAJAN, HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN or more recently HUM
DIL DE CHUKE SANAM and PYAR KIYA TO DARNA KYA. KYON
KI will showcase Salman as a dedicated lover yet again
and whether he would be able to duplicate the success
of his past hits remains to be seen. KYON KI will also
be a vital project for the lovely Kareena Kapoor who
has remained deprived of a major hit for a long time.
Her past releases like FIDA, MAIN PREM KI DIWANI HOON
crashed at the box-office while CHAMELI was just a critical
acclaim. KYON KI might just prove to be a much desired
whiff for her by breaking the string of flops that has
persisted for quite sometime now.
The film has been produced by Sunil Manchanda and Mukesh
Talreja and made under the banner of Orion and Mad films.
The dialogues for the film been written by Sanjay Chhel
(writer-director of Khoobsurat starring Sanjay Dutt
and Urmila Matondkar). The music has been provided by
the talented Himesh Reshammiya and lyrics penned by
Sameer.
The film will also mark Priyadarshan-Salman Khan workin'
together for the first time. Considering that Priyan
has met success in teaming up with other macho-men of
Bollywood like Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, it will
be interesting to see how he presents Salman in the
movie. Kareena has worked with Priyan in HULCHUL before,
but she was lost in the huge starcast of the movie who
stole most of the show, though the movie was a hit.

Salman losing sleep for Priyan!
Salman Khan and Priyadarshan can’t see eye-to-eye.
For the simple reason that their ‘timings’
don’t match. Yet they’ve managed to make
a whole feature film, Kyon Ki, together. This is the
first time they are working together, inspite of being
admirers of each other’s work for a long time
now. The only thing that held them back was that Priyadarshan
was an early bird and he likes to shoot early in the
morning while Salman is a late riser and he prefers
to shoot in the afternoon and late nights. But insiders
say that Salman decided to make major changes to his
sleeping habits to suit Priyan’s requirements.
“I was surprised to see Salman at 7 am on the
sets with full make up ready for the shoot,” says
fellow actor Manoj Joshi. Well, for Sallu’s lost
sleep, thankfull a director got some. Quite a change.
Salman: Playing a crazy guy is easy!
The first time around, he was a no-show, because he
was sick. This time, it looked like a possible repeat.
An hour and a half after the appointed time, Salman
Khan was nowhere to be seen and the press were getting
restless.
And then, just like that, the elevator doors on the
second floor of the Park Central Hotel in New York opened
and the actor and his entourage flowed out. Salman,
wearing blue jeans, a dark blue shirt and black boots,
strode into the conference room and took his place at
the front. On a wall behind him hung a large banner
for Kyon Ki, his upcoming film with Kareena Kapoor,
set for a Diwali release
http://specials.rediff.com/entertai/2005/sep/21salman1.jpg
It's about a guy who's crazy," he said of his
character, Anand. "For me, that's very easy to
play. This guy, who killed his wife, which is not true.
That part was not so easy."
Salman is in New York for several weeks, working with
Preity Zinta on Sajid Nadiadwala's Jaaneman. He would
not speak about other projects or about personal matters.
He asked journalists to instead focus their queries
on the film at hand.
http://specials.rediff.com/entertai/2005/sep/21salman5.jpg
Alright, asked a reporter: Anything challenging about
this role?
Nothing, he said, as he absentmindedly sketched geometric
shapes on a pad.
"When people find roles challenging, it means
somewhere they're incompetent," he said. "They
don't know their job really well. I didn't think there
was anything challenging. What I found difficult with
this film was to wake up at 5:30 every morning. Shooting
until 8 in the evening. That was challenging."
http://specials.rediff.com/entertai/2005/sep/21salman7.jpg
Unlike some press reports, which suggested that Kareena
had felt awkward about acting in a romantic role opposite
someone she'd known since she was a child, Salman said
it was he who had resisted acting with her.
"That's why I didn't work with her for so many
years," he said. "She's been in this industry
for what, four or five years, and I've been working
with her sister [Karisma], so to suddenly do a role
which is romantic was kind of awkward, because I've
seen her since she was seven or eight. But now she's
a grown up woman. She's very comfortable."
http://specials.rediff.com/entertai/2005/sep/21salman8.jpg
He was all praise for director Priyadarshan -- mostly.
"He's very clear, very fast, visually sound, emotionally
correct. Physically unfit," he said, finally cracking
a smile. "Apart from all these things, he' s brilliant.
Amazing sense of timing for a comedy. Technically brilliant.
He doesn't only work, he parties as well, which I quite
like in a man."
http://specials.rediff.com/entertai/2005/sep/21salman4.jpg
On his own career as an actor, he takes a journeyman
approach.
"Truly, I don't enjoy action, I don't enjoy emotion,
I don't enjoy comedy, I don't enjoy any of these things.
It's my job. I have to do this. I do it to my best abilities.
Just imagine, you're depressed one day and you have
to do comedy. You don't want to do it. My stuff carries
on to the set, and from the set it comes back home with
me. And so the problem.
He contrasted his own skills with those of other actors.
"Amitji, you give him anything. He will make the
most idiotic lines sound convincing. Shah Rukh is the
same... Aamir."
http://specials.rediff.com/entertai/2005/sep/21salman9.jpg
The thing he hates most about Indian cinema, he said,
is its name: Bollywood.
"This is some brain dead journalist's brainchild."
An anguished owner of theaters in New York asked Salman
how he could salvage his business, but the actor was
blunt.
"The first thing you should do is stop making
so much money on popcorn," he said. "Reduce
your prices. Your DVDs, sell them at the same price
as the pirated ones, perhaps so that you might kill
piracy."
It wasn't what the man had hoped to hear, but when
the session came to an end, just about everyone in the
room -- producers, theater owners, journalists -- lined
up, angling for a photo with Salman Khan.
Music Review
By Joginder Tuteja, September 20, 2005 - 12:48 IST
Music of Kyon Ki has been much awaited this season.....
Kyon Ki ....it is produced by Mukesh Talreja and Sunil
Manchanda, who also made Tere Naam
Kyon Ki ....it has songs by Himesh Reshammiya and Sameer
who created the songs of Tere Naam that are selling
even today
Kyon Ki ....it is directed by Priyadarshan who returns
to make a heartwarming emotional story after series
of comedies
Kyon Ki ....it pairs Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor
for the first time
Kyon Ki ....Salman Khan spells GOLD at the box office
today
Kyon Ki ....it releases this festive season of Diwali
and Eid
With so many factors going in the movie's favor, it
is imperative that expectations are high from ' Kyon
Ki '.
The title song ' Kyon Ki ' is all it takes to go for
the album. An instantly catchy number with a strong
base of melody, it has Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik
coming up with one of their best duets ever. This track
should go down as one of the most memorable song sung
by the lead singer pair and has everything in it to
be a major success. Sameer's lyrics yet again capture
the feeling of love through simple and subtle lyrics
without getting heavy at all. Though the lyrics have
a different theme and the music is different too, somehow
the song manages to create a similar effect as ' Tumse
Milkar Na Jaane Kyon ' from ' Pyaar Jhukta Nain ', that
was composed a couple of decades back and worked due
to simple lyrics and sheer honest melody!
Even before the album was released, the song had managed
to create immense hype around the movie. Now with almost
half the album comprising of various versions of this
track, things should only be better for ' Kyon Ki '.
First comes an adlip version by Alka that seems to have
been created for some intense soul stirring moments
in the film. Alka's vocals are a good mix of pain and
sadness but still attempt at conveying some hope. Udit-Alka
get together for a duet of the same song with an Alka
adlip and such is the sweetness of the song that it
can be heard repeatedly.
Final and the fourth version of the song is again a
duet this time with Udit Narayan and newcomer Radha.
She gets a wonderful opportunity to display her talent
as it is a kind of number that relies more on vocals
rather than any beats and heavy music, which normally
camouflage any shortcoming in a singer's voice. Though
she is good, one tends to compare it with Alka version
and needless to say, Radha has some way to go. Nevertheless,
a fine beginning for her!
A sure shot hit in the making is ' Dil Keh Raha Hai
' that is a kind of number that always works with Salman's
image of a lover boy. One can already imagine girls
swooning and drooling all over Salman when this song
is played due to great rhythm and melody. A kind of
track that was once sung by Kamaal Khan for Salman,
this one has Kunal Ganjawala behind the mike who sings
this foot tapping track in his own inimitable way without
tending to go overboard with his 'now-famous' style
of singing. Lyrics start off simple only to end up with
something as unconventional as ' Tera Jism Odh Loon
', without sounding vulgar or making the listener feel
awkward. A foot tapping number, it also appears in a
remix version , which is a faster version of the original.
The song is fine but one would still prefer to hear
a much mellowed & slower version that has romance
written all over it.
In the same mode as the title song comes ' Dil Ke Badle
Sanam ' that is, as the lyrics suggest, yet another
love song. With Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik returning
back to the scene in this song, one can see another
likeable romantic track. There is nothing extraordinary
or original about this Himesh Reshammiya tune, but still
it is a conventional harmless track that can be enjoyed
while it is played.
Kailash Kher sings the opening lines of ' Jhatka Maare
' that soon gets into the ' dupatta ' mode, courtesy
Udit Narayan's entry who croons Sameer's lyrics. This
time around the ' dupatta ' is guilty of firing as the
lyrics go as ' Goli Maare Tera Dupatta '. The number
appears to be a fun 'ched-chaad' track set in a celebration
mode and has a rustic appeal. The number is of a kind
that should appeal in cities but should be a major winner
in interiors where there are Salman fans in millions.
A rhythmic foot tapping track by Udit Narayan and Shaan,
it should light up the proceedings in the movie.
' Aa Je Le Ik Pal Mein Sau Janam ' is the final track
of the album and is in fact the best track of the album
while even surpassing the title song. Extremely lively
and sung well, it has so much that belongs to Rajesh
Roshan style of music. From singing of Udit Narayan
and Alka Yagnik [who seem to be starting from exactly
where they left the title song of KNPH] to lyrics by
Sanjay Chhel to the beats to the trademark lively atmosphere
that a Rajesh Roshan tune creates, everything fits in
so well into Rajesh Roshan mould! All in all, a winner
that adds on one more reason to go for Kyon Ki .
' Kyon Ki ' is a nice love album that has a longing
effect instead of being of a kind that make news for
a few weeks and then vanish from the scene. An album
completely belonging to Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik,
it can be easily added on to the long list of Himesh
Reshammiya, Sameer and Salman Khan hits.
Kyon Ki: Dull music
Sukanya Verma | September 20, 2005 14:20 IST
Think Kyon Ki... and the first name that pops in your
head is Ekta Kapoor. Luckily, Priyadarshan's new film
doesn't suffer from the saas-bahu syndrome.
A remake of his critically wowed 1986 Mohanlal starrer,
Thalavattam, Kyon Ki... revolves around a man suffering
from psychological problems. Thalavattam, too, drew
its inspiration from Milos Forman's stirring classic,
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, featuring Jack Nicholson
in an Oscar winning performance.
Originally titled Rahen Na Rahein Hum, Kyon Ki... was
to have Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. However, owing
to creative differences, SRK backed out and was promptly
replaced by Salman Khan. Slated for a Diwali release,
the film also stars Kareena Kapoor and Rimii Sen.
Composed by Himesh Reshammiya, the soundtrack opens
with the title track. Dramatic emotions and a sense
of hovering sadness linger prominently in this one.
Sameer's expressive lyrics accompanied by Reshammiya's
rousing compositions establish this quality well.
There is something about sad themes and melodrama.
Remember the extremely popular Tumse Milke Najane Kyon
from Pyar Jhukta Nahin? The song was repeated more than
once in the film. Ditto for Kyon Ki.... There are many
versions of the song -- romantic, subdued, heart-rending.
Even though the song is decent though, there is always
the overkill factor. It is repeated so many times in
the album that you are forced to hum one of the verses
from the song, 'kya jaan loge humari sanam?' (Are you
planning to kill me?)
Kunal Ganjawala is currently the 'it' voice . He redoes
his stylish footloose crooning, previously heard in
Murder's Bheege Honth Tere for Dil keh raha hai. Stylish
and catchy, there is nothing not to like about this
breezy track. The remix version works like any other
pumped up ditty, replete with jazzy beats et al.
Just when you are complimenting Reshammiya subconsciously
for keeping the tunes linear and fancy-free, he jolts
your senses with the grating Jhatke Maare. Roguish mischief
and eve teasing galore take place in this 'dhinchak'
brand of music.
By the time you reach Side B, the title song has played
so often that any alternative should be lapped up, right?
Wrong. Not when the alternative is the bland Aa Jee
Le Ik Pal Mein. The high on philosophy number is as
interesting as a bus stop. More insipidity is dished
your way in the form of Dil Ke Badle Sanam.
That's pretty much the A to Z of Kyon Ki... Dull, eh?
But then, Priyadartshan's films are not really known
for their music. And in the case of Kyon Ki..., apart
from a couple of songs, there isn't much to brag about
either.

The wait is finally over for all those lovers of pure
unadulterated, traditional (not too classical) music
and for those who were waiting eagerly, especially after
seeing the first few teasers of the title song of 'Kyon
Ki'. Maybe, sensing this anxiety and the fact that the
movie is releasing this Diwali-Eid (with hardly a fortnight
and a month left), T-Series has gone ahead and rescheduled
the audio release of 'Kyon Ki' by almost a week.
Needless to say, the expectations have already assumed
mammoth proportions because the album comes from the
same team that gave us the still quite popular 'Tere
Naam' - producers Mukesh Talreja and Sunil Manchanda,
music director Himesh Reshammiya (fresh from the surprise
success of 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne'), lyricist Sameer and
above all Salman Khan.
The title song 'Kyon Ki Itna Pyar' appears four times
in the album. The first one has Udit and Alka, the second
one teams up Udit with Radha and the third one has Alka
rendering the song solo.
Slow paced, a haunting harmonica (mouth organ) piece
starts (and ends) the proceedings of this absolutely
infectious number, which is a class apart. It's a song
that lingers on in the mind and consciously and unconsciously
one keeps humming it. Udit Narayan is brilliant as he
infuses feelings into each and every word and Alka is
equal to the task as she complements him. The lyrics
by Sameer are simple yet touch the heart with utmost
ease (without being flamboyant) - " Kyon Ki itna
pyar tumko karte hain sanam, Kya janoge hamari sanam,
Hamare dil ki tum thodi si qadar kar lo, Hum tum pe
marte hain, thodi si fikar kar lo." This one is
a sure shot chartbuster, which is mass as well as class
appealing (like the title song of 'Tere Naam') and will
occupy the top position for many weeks to come.
Instead of Udit (as in the first version) it is Radha
who commences the second version in a slow paced manner,
accompanied by the same harmonica piece. Radha's voice
is youthful and has clarity. She does a fine job but
compared to the seasoned Alka, she is no match.
The 'Version II Alka Adlip' of ' Kyon Ki Itna Pyar'
engulfs one immediately as the music gives clear insight
into the turbulent and troubled state of mind of the
lead artist, while keeping in mind the contents of the
movie. Towards the end, the song moves to a crescendo
like climax and leaves the listener with a slightly
disturbed and uneasy feeling. Must give credit to Himesh
for making the two absolutely similar songs (lyrically)
so contrasting yet so mesmerizing.
The fourth and last version is just a space filler
and is no different from the first one
To sum up, all the above numbers/versions are par excellence.
Hats off to Himesh Reshammiya for coming up with absolute
winners that leave the listeners spellbound.
"Dil Keh Raha Hai" features Kunal Ganjawala
and he renders this number in the 'Murder' style after
the song commences yet again with harmonica sounds.
The song itself is a light and soft romantic number
that should surely appeal to the youth.
'Aa Jeen Le Ek Pal' features Udit and Alka once again
for this soft 'n' sweet romantic number (slightly inspired
in the 'antras' by the title song of 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai').
The song has some good lyrics by guest lyricist, director
Inspired or not,
this song is one of the better compositions of the album
(in addition to the title track).
The remixed version of 'Dil Keh Raha Hai' is one of
the better remixes, where the playback singer is not
relegated to the background with too much synthesized
sounds and beats. Ganjawala's voice is used to a good
effect, as it is also used as the background vocals
and crooning. The pace of the remix is just right and
thankfully it is not too fast paced for comfort (as
is the problem with most remixes). Himesh does not compromise
for scoring at the dance floors (though it will still
score there!) and manages to give an excellent remix
that is better than the original, as per the song requirement.
'Dil Ke Badle Sanam' once again features Udit Narayan
and Alka Yagnik, both of whom have sung such routine
romantic numbers with ease for an innumerable number
of times and have managed to lift them by their sheer
talent and chemistry, like they do here. One must add
that 'Dil Ke Badle Sanam' may sound routine but on repeated
hearings, one feels that it is still a cut above the
rest of the romantic numbers being dished out these
days.
The simple uncomplicated lyrics and the easy tune may
make it appealing to the listeners especially the masses
- ,Dil ke badle sanam, Dil ye de chuke, De chuke, De
chuke, Tumhe dil ye de chuke., However, one will shirk
away from the responsibility of being a music reviewer
if it is not mentioned that faint traces of the legendary
Shashi Kapoor-Nanda song 'Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan
Milana' ('Jab Jab Phool Khile') are definitely present.
'Jhatka Maare' has Kailash Kher, Shaan and Udit Narayan
teaming up to sing this 'dupatta' number (an essential
ingredient in a Salman-Reshammiya album!). Kailash in
his usual manner begins the song and then Udit takes
over. The song is especially aimed at the frontbenchers.
Mind you, the lyrics could have been cheap but Sameer
manages to give it a reasonable amount of decency, keeping
in mind that it is picturized on Salman Khan and not
Govinda. The song obviously seems to have been picturized
during the happier times (in a flashback sequence) in
'Kyon Ki' and gives the impression of being one of the
'masti'/'bhang' guzzling moments!
On the whole, it is but obvious that 'Kyon Ki' is another
triumph for the Salman-Himesh-Sameer team and may well
emulate the success of the banner's ('MAD & Orion
Films') previous musical blockbuster, 'Tere Naam'. The
four versions of the title track along with 'Dil Keh
Raha Hai' and the mass appealing 'Jhatka Maare' are
some potent ammo in its arsenal that will be used against
another potential winning album 'Garam Masala'. More
about that later and for that keep tuned to Bollyvista!

Salman as the mentally unstable killer
19th Sept 2005 13.28 IST
By Agencies
Salman Khan is playing the role of a mentally unstable
killer in the forthcoming film Kyunki .
‘Kyunki’, which also stars Kareena Kapoor
and Rimi Sen , is directed by Priyadarshan and is based
on the Malayalam movie 'Thalavattam'.
'Thalavattam' had Malayalam megastar Mohanlal in the
male lead and the versatile actor bagged all the awards
of that year for his amazing performance.
‘Kyunki’ has Salman playing the male protagonist
who is accused of the murder of his wife and is declared
mentally unstable.
Paying compliment to Mohanlal Salman says jovially,
" I didn't see 'Thalavattam' because I didn't want
to be complexed by Mr. Mohanlal's work. However, I would
like him to see 'Kyunki' and tell me what he feels about
my work."

Kolkata, September 18: * THE promos of Priyadarshan’s
Kyon Ki are out and everyone is talking about the sizzling
chemistry between Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. But
few know that the lead actors were uncomfortable shooting
the mushy songs. Kareena told us as much. ‘‘Salman
has seen me in my nightie when I was nine. I used to
hide behind the curtains during the shooting of Jaagruti
where he was paired with Lolo. Now suddenly, he’s
my leading man. Working with Salman for Kyon Ki was
really a little embarrassing,’’ she laughs.
Well, Salman and Bebo are both good actors because the
discomfort doesn’t show at all.
Salman Khan in 'Dil Keh Raha
Hai'
IndiaGlitz [Friday, September 16, 2005]
When it rains it pours. Same can be said about Salman
Khan who has a certified hit in the form of 'Kyonki'
on the way. If the initial promos were anything to go
by, the movie by Priyadarshan seems to be a family movie
with ample dose of drama and romance.
Now there is more to cheer for Salman Khan fans as
they get to see a subtle yet imposing personality of
Salman Khan dancing to the tune of a jazzy love song
'Dil Keh Raha Hai' that has been composed by Himesh
Reshammiya. Looking young and lively, the song has Salman
wooing Rimi Sen through his charming antics and appears
to be a sure fire popular track amongst the youth.
The number is based on melody and has Salman Khan looking
as sober, simple and innocent as he can. Watch out for
the number, it's going to be the talk of the town in
a few days from now. And remember, you read it first
here. Watch out for our exclusive review of the entire
album when it releases next week!
It’s ‘Garam Masala’
versus ‘Kyon Ki…’
By Taran Adarsh, September 14, 2005 - 09:35 IST
With the Diwali releases narrowing down to three biggies
-- SHAADI NO. 1, KYON KI… and GARAM MASALA --
the prospects of the three films opening to a thunderous
response during the festive week have only brightened.
But everyone’s keenly looking forward to the clash
of two Priyadarshan films [KYON KI… and GARAM
MASALA] on the same date.
“Both are different films in terms of content,”
GARAM MASALA producer Ratan Jain informs me, “And
every film will find its target audience.” Can’t
the clash be averted? “Well, they [KYON KI…]
were supposed to hit the screens in August, while we
had decided on a Diwali release. But, for some reason,
they decided to release it in the Diwali week, hence
this clash. Nevertheless, I don’t see the two
films cutting into each other’s business since
the stars are different and so is the genre,”
the soft-spoken producer clarifies.
Meanwhile, the Jains have decided to promote GARAM
MASALA aggressively to stand out in the crowd. Also,
the producers are planning a series of premiere shows
across the globe. “It all depends on the availability
of the actors’ dates. Akshay is in the U.S., while
John is abroad as well. We may take a decision on this
later,” Jain adds.

THE REAL STAR OF 'KYUNKI'!
The promos of the SALMAN KHAN starrer Kyunki have met
with a mixed response but from what we see and hear
the real star of the film is not KAREENA KAPOOR but
RIMII SEN. The Dhoom and Hungama girl who supposedly
essays Salman's wife in the film is not only looking
ravishing but has performed exceedingly well in the
film. Remarked our source, "She doesn't have too
many dialogues and that's the beauty of her role. She
is meant to emote mainly through her eyes and body language."
Hmm...sounds interesting.
Salman starrer title changed again
It was titled KYUNKI initially. The title was changed
to RAHEIN NAA RAHEIN HUM after some time. Later, the
producers decided to revert to the first title -- KYUNKI.
The title of Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s
first film together has undergone a change for the fourth
time. It’s KYON KI finally.
Directed by Priyadarshan, the film is slated for November
2 release.
This Diwali, it’s Priyan vs Priyan
Prolific director Priyadarshan will battle himself
at the box-office with two films releasing on the same
day
Subhash K Jha
This Diwali, the super-prolific Priyadarshan will find
himself in a peculiar position at the box-office. He
will be competing with himself! Speaking from Chennai,
Priyan sighs volubly at the irony of it. “Can
you believe it? Two of my Hindi films, Kyunki and Garam
Masala, are being released on the same day this Diwali!
I don't think this has ever happened in the history
of cinema when a director takes himself on at the boxoffice.”
Not as original as he might imagine. In 1992, David
Dhawan's Deewana Mastana and Mr. & Mrs. Khiladi,
too, were released on the same day. “I'm not aware
of this,” Priyan counters. “All I know is
that my Friday twin-release is unlikely to be self-destructive
for the simple reason that both are very different films.
While Garam Masala is an out-and-out comedy adapted
from my Malayalam film Boeing Boeing, Kyunki is an original
script about the relationship between a doctor and her
patient. It was originally inspired by Milos Foreman's
'One flew over the cuckoo's nest'. But I'm told there's
an element of an old Hindi film Khamoshi (directed by
Asit Sen) in Kyun. I'm looking for a DVD of that film."
Kyun is Priyan's first non-comedy in Hindi since his
successful Viraasat. “And if Kyun doesn't work
I can always go back to my safe formula of comedy in
Hindi,” he chortles.
Pondering over the competitive crisis due this Diwali,
Priyan observes, “I made Kyun and Garam Masala
in two different time frames. They were never meant
to be released together. If the producers have decided
to release both this Diwali, what can I do? All I can
say is that I hope audiences find both equally exciting.”
So as a member of the audience which one would I be
tempted to see first? “I'd advise you to see Kyunki
first because it's a serious film. And then go for Garam
Masala because it's a laugh riot.”
Kareena is not doing a 'Black'
By Subhash K. Jha, IANS
Where is Kareena Kapoor? And has she really signed
a film in which she plays a physically challenged girl
- a la "Black"?
Kareena laughs loudly. "Yeah, I'm playing a deaf
and mute girl in Priyadarshan's next film. But the character
and the film are nothing like Rani Mukherjee and 'Black'.
"Though I'm physically challenged the film is
a kind of comedy...a comedy on the vagaries of life...I'm
really looking forward to working with Priyan again.
I've just completed another, still untitled with him,
where I pair with Salman Khan for the first time. Audiences
are going to faint when they see how good Salman and
I look together."
JUNE 10, 2005
- Jackie to star in Priyadarshan's next
Jackie Shroff is a busy man these
days. After Priyadarshan's "Hulchul", Jackie
will soon be seen in another Priyadarshan-directed movie,
"Kyonki", in which he plays a mental asylum
doctor.
"It is a very well-etched character with
a strong undercurrent of emotion. This is my fourth
film with Priyan," said the actor, popularly known
as Jaggu dada, reports Bollywood Trade.
Jackie is also looking forward to the release of "Tum
Ho Na". Directed by Raj Bharat, the movie has Shroff
playing the role of a soldier scarred by memories of
his tenure with the army during a war, and decides to
start life afresh. The movie premieres on Sahara channel,
reports Bollywood Trade. And with the forthcoming "Bhoot",
it's Jackie's turn to play ghost.
"Bhoot" will mark the production debut of
actor Sumeet Saigal (remember seeing him with Rupa Ganguli
in the then popular song "Kali teri choti hai"?).
Then there's another project - Tanuja Chandra's "Runway"
- to keep Jackie busy.
JUNE 1, 2005
- No laughing matter: Priyadarshan
Less than six months after his
last rib-tickling release, Hulchul, ace director Priyadarshan
is on the verge of completing not one but two films
— another comedy titled Garam Masala (starring
Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Rimi Sen), while the
other will be a more emotional film titled Kyunki (starring
Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Rimi
Sen).
He’s excited about serious films. Priyadarshan
says he is eagerly waiting to start his UTV film with
Kareena and Shahid, as it’s not going to be an
out-and-out comedy like Hulchul or Hera Pheri.
“I’m especially excited about working on
Kyunki. I am sure it will take me back to the genre
of my earlier films like Virasat and Gardish, which
I treasure a lot. I am making a conscious effort now
to bring in more emotion in my films and move away from
laugh riots,” says Priyan, adding, “Most
humour films have a short shelf-life.”
Kyunki, Says Priyan about the film, “It is the
most intense film I have ever made . It is a love story
set in a mad house.
It is my version of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s
Nest. Salman plays a mental patient in the movie.”
Kyunki releases on August 12
MAY 31, 2005 - It's now Om Puri
in the rap mode
Rap seems to be the current rage
in Bollywood music. First it was Big B lip-syncing to
Blaaze's rap for the English version of Bunty Aur Babli.
Then we heard about Dev Anand who at 82 plus is still
charged up to rap a song in his own voice for the title
track of Mr. Prime Minister.
Now we have character artist and small time singer
Aroon Bakshi going in the rap mode for a song for Priyadarshan's
upcoming film Kyunki, starring Salman Khan and Kareena
KapoorInterestingly the rap has been picturised on Om
Puri. Bakshi also has a negative role in the flick
Sunil Manchanda on Kyunki...
Rumour is that your next film
with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor titled Kyunki, to
be directed by Priyadarshan, is a remake of the Hollywood
hit One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. And that
it may be a little too morbid for commercial tastes.
Yes, I am making a film with Salman and Kareena and
it is being directed by Priyadarshan but it is not a
copy of the Hollywood film. It’s a remake of one
of Priyan’s Malayalam hits. We’ve altered
the script slightly to adapt it for a Hindi-speaking
audience.
It’s a little early for people to speculate what
the film is all about. Besides, what makes you say sad
endings don’t work? Didn’t Tere Naam have
one? I am not going to reveal my ending or my story
and provide more fodder to the rumour mongers
OM PURI ON KYUNKI....
Puri is also revved up about a yet-untitled movie with
Priyadarshan. “It is loosely based on Ken Kasey’s
One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, which was made
into a movie starring Jack Nicholson. I’m not
the protagonist, it’s Salman. I essay the male
nurse character. In true Bollywood style, he falls in
love with my daughter,” he says with a smile.
Priyadarshan turns Salman's
fan
The famous south Indian director Priyadarshan has given
many hit blockbusters. He shifted to Mumbai and lent
his excellent direction to Bollywood, especially for
comedies. He made hits like 'Hulchul', 'Hungama' and
'Hera-Pheri'. If one is going to make any comedy, the
first choice falls on Priyadarshan. So, he is the most
wanted director in the cine industry. At present, he
is working with Salman Khan about 20 km away from Ooty.
He starts shooting early morning from 6a.m. even at
8-degree temperature. When the producer inquired from
Salman if he could begin shoot in the morning chill,
Salman quipped, " Let me know what's the time for
shooting, I'll be there. " This turned Priyadarshan
also a fan of Salman Khan
MARCH 17, 2005 - Salman starrer undergoes title change
The title of Orion & MAD Productions' [TERE NAAM,
DIL NE JISE APNA
KAHAA] forthcoming project RAHEIN NAA RAHEIN HUM has
been changed to
KYUNKI again.
The film was initially titled KYUNKI, but the
producers decided to change it to RAHEIN NAA RAHEIN
HUM since they didn't receive a
favorable response to the title. But, now, they have
reverted to the original title KYUNKI.
KYUNKI stars Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Rimii Sen,
Jackie Shroff and Om Puri in pivotal roles. Produced
by Mukesh Talreja and Sunil Manchanda and directed by
Priyadarshan, the film has music by Himesh Reshammiya.
Kareena Finds Salman "Mind
Blowing" In Priyadarshan´s Film
According to the lead actress of Priyadarshan´s
still untitled film Kareena , her co-star in the film
Salman Khan is "Mind blowing" in the movie
. She also rates Himesh´s music in the film as
"Unbelievable" and predicts it to be "The
music of the year ."
The movie is still to be titled and there is
a devided opinion between . ´Kyunki´ and
´Rahein Na Rahein Hum ´ , unlike what has
been written about the title.
Exclusive: One up on "TERE
NAAM" m
Producers Sunil Manchanda and Mukesh Talreja
and director Priyadarshan it seems have winner up their
sleeves this time in RAHEIN NA RAHEIN HUM. The privileged
ones who have seen the rushes of the film are all praise
for Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor and their magical
screen chemistry. Priyadarshan's direction is also said
to be top class and the look of the film is much bigger
than TERE NAAM. The highlight of the film is said to
be the dialogue and last but not the least the music.
Our reliable Himesh Reshammiya has given great score
this time, which is a treat for your ears and listeners
insist that he has gone a step ahead from where he left
in TERE NAAM. Our best whishes!.
Salman Khan's film retitled
Priyadarshan The title of Orion & MAD Productions'
'Kyunki' has now been changed to 'Rahein Naa Rahein
Hum'. Clearly, the makers of this film do not believe
in the K factor as most sections of the industry do.
The film, directed by Priyadarshan, stars Salman Khan,
Kareena Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Ruimi Sen and Om Puri
in the main roles. Himesh Reshamiya has scored the music.
Priyadarshan's last film 'Hulchul' met with a lukewarm
response at the ticket counters. Let's see if 'RNRH'
makes Priyadarshan smile.

Priyadarshan on Salman
One day, I happened to narrate the story to Sunil
Manchanda, the producer. He liked it and asked Salman
if he was interested. Salman liked the story, and he
was in the project.
Working with Salman Khan was a great experience. Everybody
told me that Salman interferes, he never comes on time,
etc, but I was working with Salman Khan everyday at
6 in the morning! And he would be there at minus temperatures
in Ooty, and never did he give any trouble. In the movie
you can notice fumes coming out of his mouth during
the dialogue delivery. What else can I expect?
I was very very happy! I have closed everybody's mouth
about Salman. I shot the whole movie in Romania and
Ooty, and it will release in May.
JANUARY 25, 2005 - 'I don't believe
in superstitions!'
Malayalam director Priyadarshan's last film, Hulchul,
may not have drawn critical acclaim, but packed audiences
into the theatres. Now, in an interview with Patcy N,
the director discusses his upcoming film, and his desire
to not name it with an H-word. Here are some excerpts:
It is basically my own film; I made it in 1986, called
Thalavattam. That was inspired by the novel, One Flew
Over The Cuckoo's Nest, but this is not the same film
– I've written a new screenplay. The basics are
the same, of course, but I have adapted it. It's a love
story where the hero is hospitalised due to some tragedy,
and it's a love story between the patient and his doctor.
The patient is played by none other than our own Salman
Khan, and Kareena Kapoor plays the doctor. It is a sad
romance, with its own entertainment value.
Other actors in this film include: Jackie Shroff, also
playing a doctor; Om Puri, playing Kareena's father;
and then there is Rimi Sen.
The movie is still untitled as the producer wants the
title to start with H and I don't want it to start with
H, as I don't believe in such superstitions!
I was planning this movie with Shah Rukh Khan first,
but he had his back and neck problem and he asked me
to wait, and then Main Hoon Na stalled it. Then we had
some differences of opinion about the end of the movie,
and I shelved the project, started Hungama, and completely
forgot about it.
One day, I happened to narrate the story to Sunil Manchanda,
the producer. He liked it and asked Salman if he was
interested. Salman liked the story, and he was in the
project.
Working with Salman Khan was a great experience. Everybody
told me that Salman interferes, he never comes on time,
etc, but I was working with Salman Khan everyday at
6 in the morning! And he would be there at minus temperatures
in Ooty, and never did he give any trouble. In the movie

the dialogue delivery. What else can I expect?
I was very very happy! I have closed everybody's mouth
about Salman. I shot the whole movie in Romania and
Ooty, and it will release in May.
Priyadarshan's Salman-Kareena
movie is called?
It is well known that Priyadarshan's next movie,
featuring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor is based on
'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' and is about the relationship
between a psychologically disturbed patient and his
doctor.
However, what is not known is that its name may well
either be 'Rang' or 'Rahe
Na Rahen Hum.'
Priyan Talks More About "Rang"
?
As for Kareena , she’s the Goldie Hawn
of my film. I feel it’s very difficult for female
actors to do comedy. But she’s terrific at it.
Her attitude is right for the film. I had offered her
a role in Hungama also. Now in my new film with Salman
Kareena does a serious role of a doctor. It’s
my take-off on One Flew over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
So how much of that film will you retain?
Not a single scene. I’ve just taken the spirit
of One Flew….Salman Khan bratty nature goes very
well with the theme. He’s our ‘Brat’
Pitt, ha ha. On 26 December I complete the film.
Why are you shooting your new Hindi film in Chennai?
That’s because I’m still not comfortable
in Mumbai. The stars are so sweet. They’ve agreed
to come all the way. We don’t have a title yet.
But we want to call it Rang. Though it’s a serious
film there’s a lot of entertainment in it. It’ll
be my hard-hitting film. I’m off South Indian
films for the next three years. Things are going well
for me in Hindi films. So why not try to make headway
there?
Kareena Kapoor-Salman in Chennai
AVM Studios were brighter than
usual. We became curious. That was when we saw Kareena
Kapoor, the dream girl of Bollywood. Along with her
was the Gym-bodied Salman Khan.
Director Priyadarshan was remaking the Tamil film 'Manasukkul
Maththappu' in Hindi. The visit was part of the film's
shooting.
AVM's eighth floor was converted to a
mental hospital for the film's shooting. When we arrived,
we found Kareena looking sleek and sexy in a red and white
sari. Cinematographer Thiru was speaking to her. Salman
Khan was the hero of 'Tere Naam', the Hindi remake of
'Sethu'. The film was a reasonable hit at the box office
and Salman's role was well-received. He gets to play another
similar role in the new film.
The film hasn't been named yet, so the clapboard simply
read 'Production No 3'. When we got ready to shoot stills
of the film, director Priyadarshan requested us not to
and said that he would give the still photographs himself.
We obliged and left
Priyadarsan next with Salman Khan
Priyadarshan is in news these days. His new film ‘Hulchul’
is pulling audience despite stiff compitetion from Yash
Chopra’s ‘Veer Zaara’. First week collections
are yet to come out but trade pundits smell a mega-hit.
And for those who are wondering what Priyadarshan’s
next move would be here comes the caper:Priyadarsan wants
to take a break from comedies; he plans to do something
serious for his next project.Priyadarshan says his next
film with Salman and Kareena is a serious film with little
bit of humour. When asked is he leaving his fans who like
to see comedies catered by him, Priyan says comedy comes
naturally to him.
Even his previous serious film, Viraasat
had shades of humour.Venus signs Priyadarshan-Akshay-Paresh
for its next The Venus-Priyadarshan team seems to be contenthead
for a hat trick with Venus signing Priyadarshan to direct
another film after the recently released HULCHUL. Venus
has also confirmed the by-now Priyadarshan favorites,
Akshaye and Paresh Rawal, both of whom were seen in HUNGAMA
and HULCUL. “He is a great director in his own right
and we share an excellent tuning with each other. There
is no reason why we shouldn’t have a long-term relationship
with him,” says Ratan Jain, commenting on Venus’
decision to sign Priyadarshan for its third film.
He does not however prefer to be called a Priyadarshan
loyalist. “It is difficult to say as to who’s
loyal to whom, but the fact remains that we make an excellent
team,” smiles Jain. Jain is also tight-lipped about
the subject of the next film and whether it is a comedy
like the former two films. “All I can say is that
it will definitely hold a lot of promise with its distinct
Priyadarshan style,” he says
Incidentally, Priyadarshan is also a hot favorite with
Sunil Shetty and Popcorn Pictures, which recently signed
the former for a film to be jointly produced with Ashtavinayak
Cine Vision.
DECEMBER 2, 2004 - Priyadarshan's
next not to start with H
While his recent release Hulchul creating quite a Hungama
at the box-office registers, Priyadarshan has found a
name for his next film starring Salman Khan and Kareena
Kapoor. However it does not start with 'H' as in case
of Hera Pheri, Hungama and Hulchul. The director has gone
for a tentative title Rang.
Let's see what color of cinema does Priyadarshan display
in this film.
Salman is like a kid: Director Priyadarshan
I think Salman is like a kid. Initially, I was afraid
to work with him. I kept
hearing all sorts of rumours: ‘Salman is not interested
in work; he will not
listen to you’. But we discovered that both of us
share a great comfort level,
while shooting for my forthcoming film. Salman is simply
superb at humour, which
is my forté as well.
Priyadarsan gets serious with Salman!
Comedy king Priyadarsan wants to take a break from comedies;
he plans to do something serious for his next project.
According to the director, “Though comedy comes
naturally to me, I’m making a serious film with
Salman and Kareena for a change. I don’t want to
get caught in any one groove or formula. I have made enough
comedies in Hindi, so it’s time I changed my genre.”
Priyadarsan explains that the film he’s currently
shooting with Salman and Kareena in Chennai has only some
element of comedy. “No film of mine is complete
without humour. Even a serious film like Viraasat had
comic scenes,” he says. He is especially excited,
he tells us, because for the first time he’s working
with one of the top trio of Khans. For a man who gives
us the biggest laughs, it can’t get bigger than
this!
Salman Plays Patient in Remake of
Cuckoo's Nest
According to Priyadarshan his Cuckoo’s Nest is a
serious though not grim film. “Kareena plays a doctor
and Salman is her patient. The nurse from the original
film is now played by Om Puri. Salman is just right for
the Jack Nicholson part. He’s such a brat.”

Priyadarshan Praises Salman Khan
Priyadarshan , whose ´Hulchul´ is carrying
good reports and is all set to release this Friday .No
wonder the director is quite relaxed .
Talking about Salman Khan who stars in one of his forthcoming
projects Priyadarshan says , " Working with Salman
Khan is fun . I am directing him in a film produced by
Sunil Manchanda . While interacting with him I realized
that the picture painted by the media and a section of
the industry is diametrically opposite to what he is in
real life . Salman is a nice guy with no ill feeling for
anybody . He has an enviable flair for comedy and enjoys
doing it . He enjoys his work thoroughly unlike some actors
that I have worked with ."
Kareena is excited to work with
Sallu.
Our bubbly chirpy actress Kareena has entered in mature
world by giving serious films like ‘Chameli’
and ‘Aitraaz’. As she reveals she wants to
do each and every kind of role and not to be a type cast.
Nowadays she is very excited to work with salman “I
am doing a film with Priyadarshan co-starring Salman Khan.
Besides, I will work with Salman in his home production,
My Punjabi Nikaah directed by Sohail Khan. So there, I
will be starting two films this year. And I am really
looking forward to working with Salman.” Says Kareena.
Excerpts from Priyadarshan's interview
Any more comedies in the pipeline?
For the time being, no. I’m a shooting a film with
Salman Khan and Kareena. Though there are bits and pieces
of comedy in it, overall it’s serious film.
Big stars? Aren’t Anil Kapoor,
Akshay Kumar, Akshaye Khanna and Suniel Shetty big enough?
Oh, no, I didn’t mean that! What I meant is - in
your Bollywood lingo, the ‘Khan bracket’ that’s
currently ruling the roost here. Like they say here, if
you work with a Khan in Bollywood, you have arrived. I
guess I, too, have arrived here
SALMAN – KAREENA – RIMI

3 has returned from Romania after completing the first
schedule. The film is 45% complete. Cast: Salman Khan,
Kareena Kapoor, Rimi Sen, Jackie Shroff and Om Puri. A
Gautam Kumar presentation, the film is produced by Mukesh
Talreja and Sunil Manchanda. Director: Priyadarshan. Music:

Priyadarsan's remake
The other day we informed you about how Rimii of 'Hungama'
and 'Dhoom' had been signed up opposite Salman Khan and
Kareena Kapoor for another film to be shot in Romania.
(She had just returned from the same country after shooting
for Punkej Kharabanda's 'Dost' with Sanjay Dutt and Aftab.)
The said film is being produced by Mukesh Talreja and
Sunil Manchanda (of 'Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa' and 'Tere
Naam') and will be directed by Priyadarsan (who has just
completed Venus' 'Hulchul' with Akshaye Khanna and Kareena
Kapoor.) Reportedly, it is a remake of 'One Flew Over
Cuckoo's Nest'.
Kareena and Rimii: Birds in a cuckoo's
nest!
Other than his brilliant knack of tickling the funny bone,
director Priyadarshan does have the added ability of ensnaring
the finest actors for his films. While his current project,
‘Hulchul’ boasts of a host of stars (Akshaye
Khanna, Kareena Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and more), he’s
already announced his next - again starring a string of
biggies, including two sexy ladies in the lead - Kareena
Kapoor and Rimii - flanked by none other than Salman Khan.
It is supposed to be the remake of a Hollywood flick.
Bebo, who is more than excited to work with Sallu for
the first time, tells us, “Yes, it’s true
I am doing a film with Priyadarshan. I love working with
him, and he’s really cool! The film is a remake
of the English novel and film, ‘One Flew Over the
Cuckoo’s Nest’, and I am opposite Salman.”
Remaking a best-seller novel - and film - sounds like
a good idea, as long as Priyadarshan doesn’t end
up with a bird’s eye view of the BO. Or goes cuckoo
– whichever comes first!
The yet-to-be-titled movie stars Salman
with Kareena Kapoor and Rimi Sen . Om Puri also plays
a marginal role in the film.
The film is being described as a love-triangle
story and its shooting has begun with a schedule in beautiful
locales of Romania.
Film’s director Priyadarshan has
plans to shoot three songs and a few important scenes
in this five-week schedule abroad.
Salman to play cuckoo
Hungama maker Priyadarshan is moving away from comedy
and into a romantic drama mode.
His next project is inspired by the Milos Forman classic
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and will star the first
time coupling of Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The Untitled
drama will be shot in Spain from October. Says Priyadarshan,
"Unlike my other Hindi films, this one isn't a remake."
But much like the Jack Nicholson character in One Flew…
Salman plays a mentally disturbed person in here. Priyadarshan
has just completed Hulchul with Kareena. "She and
Akshaye (Khanna) were a joy to work with.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2004 - Salman - Kareena
- Rimi teamed
The producers of TERE NAAM and DIL NE JISE APNA KAHAA
have teamed
Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rimi Sen in their new
film.
Orion & Mad Productions' new venture [its not titled
yet] will go on the floors on September 20 with a 35-day
schedule in Romania. In this stint, major scenes will
be filmed, including three songs. After this schedule,
the film will be 45% complete. Music director Himesh Reshammiya
has already recorded six songs. Presented by Gautam Kumar,
produced by Mukesh Talreja and Sunil Manchanda and directed
by Priyadarshan, the film co-stars Om Puri.
AUGUST 26, 2004 - KYUNKI
(Cinema India, Bollywood) Mumbai, Aug 26 : Prolific filmmaker
Priyadarshan can barely contain his excitement about his
new project starring the untried pair of Salman Khan and
Kareena Kapoor and inspired by the intense drama "One
Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
"It's my dream project, and it's
finally happening," says the versatile maker of films
like "Hungama".
He will launch his new, untitled film
that will be shot in Spain on Sep 10. Inspired by the
Milos Forman classic and the film of the same name that
starred Jack Nicholson, Priyadarshan was supposed to make
the film with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Later, when
Shah Rukh had health problems he narrated the script to
Hrithik Roshan.
"But now I'm so glad Salman is doing
it. He not only agreed readily but also gave me bulk dates.
I hope to complete the film by November- end,"
